Paramedic Compensation. 1) Paramedics shall be compensated at Range 3, as outlined in Appendix D, with the exception of those employees selected to be paramedics who have not attained Journeyperson status, said employees shall be compensation at 10% above their applicable apprenticeship step.
2) Those employees who are employed as paramedics and maintain a paramedic license for twelve (12) consecutive years or more, shall be compensated an additional 2% above Range 3.
3) Paramedic 2’s shall be compensated at Range 3a, as outlined in Appendix D. Those employees who maintain a paramedic license for twelve (12) consecutive years or more shall be compensated an additional 2% above Range 3a.
Paramedic Compensation. In addition to his/her base rate of pay, any Captain of the Fire Division, under the provision of this ordinance, who is actively performing as a certified paramedic, shall be compensated on an hourly basis of 5% above base pay, as set forth below: 0–1 Year as Fire Captain $1.28 $1.32 $1.36 After 1 Year as Fire Captain $1.35 $1.39 $1.43 After 2 Years as Fire Captain $1.39 $1.45 $1.51 When a Captain of the Fire Division first attains certified paramedic status, the Fire Chief shall certify such fact to the Director of Finance. The Captain's hourly pay shall then be adjusted accordingly effective the first day of the pay period following the Fire Chief's certification. Off-duty time spent in required training to maintain paramedic certification, as approved by the Fire Chief, shall be compensated at a rate of 2.15 times the Captain's base hourly rate of pay. Paramedic Compensation. The City of Urbana recognizes the significance of expanding the organizational structure of the Urbana Fire Division, and although, the division employees are desirous of improving the succession plan for the division, it is prudent to plan deliberately to integrate the lieutenant’s position(s) into the division’s organization.
Paramedic Compensation. A. Fire Officers shall not be eligible to act as a paramedic.
B. Personnel who “transferred to suppression” as a firefighter prior to January 1, 2013 will continue to provide service as a FRALS paramedic until they retire or promote.
C. The differential for being assigned as a paramedic by the department is 6.25% above base pay for that employee’s rank.
Paramedic Compensation. Members of the Association who are promoted to the positions of Fire Engineer or Fire Captain, or who are assigned as Fire Marshal or Fire Inspector, may retain their Paramedic License and be entitled to compensation for such license.

4) Paramedics with 5 years of active service as a paramedic who are voluntarily reclassified to Firefighter, maintain a paramedic license that is available to the City of Madison, and are assigned to a medic unit when needed will have their base rate compensation reduced by 7.5% from 10%. Members shall receive a 7.5% increase in base pay when assigned to work on a medic unit and 2.5% base premium pay all the time. Members shall ride the medic unit 12 times per year and may be assigned up to 30 shifts per year. Any shifts worked beyond thirty (30) in a given calendar year will be by mutual agreement between the Firefighter and management. See Memorandum of Understanding dated April 26, 2022.

1. This paramedic differential will be reported to CalPERS as Paramedic Premium Special Assignment Pay. However, any hours worked on overtime are excluded from CalPERS reported “compensation earnable” in California Government Code Section 20635.
D. Any employee assigned to work on the transport unit shall be paid a differential when assigned and works on an ambulance (Higher Class Ambulance Transport - HCAT) of 12.50% above base pay for that employee’s rank.
1. For all time an employee is assigned to work a transport unit they shall receive both the base paramedic differential and the HCAT differential.
2. Paramedic Supervisor Is are exempt from receiving the paramedic differential or HCAT pay.
3. This HCAT differential will be reported to CalPERS as Higher Class Ambulance Transport Premium Special Assignment Pay. However, any hours worked on overtime are excluded from CalPERS reported “compensation earnable” in California Government Code Section 20635.
E. An employee assigned as a paramedic who has been assigned for at least eighteen months will be given an allowance of $1,500 after submission of a renewed California paramedic license, completion of Alameda County EMS requirements, and submission of a Fire Department reaccreditation form.
Paramedic Compensation. A Firefighter, Fire Engineer or Fire Captain who is assigned as a department paramedic shall receive a ten (10%) percent salary differential.
Paramedic Compensation. Effective May 1, 2012 all certified paramedics shall be compensated pursuant to Appendix A – Firefighter Paramedic/Lieutenant Paramedic wage scale. An employee who ceases to meet the qualifications of paramedic shall be paid according to Appendix A – Firefighter/Lieutenant wage scale.
