Parent Involvement. Provide parents of nonpublic Title I approved students with parent involvement activities and strategies to enhance student achievement in reading and math services. At least two (2) workshops will be conducted yearly for parents of Title I approved students. Nonpublic schools and parents are given the opportunity for input of workshop topics. Documentation for this training shall include agendas, meeting minutes and handouts.
Parent Involvement. Evening Parent meetings will be held throughout the year. Advance notice of these meetings will be given in the school calendar and/or the Sunrise Newsletter. The meetings will cover such topics as: the Montessori philosophy and methods, school curriculum, ideas on developing consistency between home and school, children’s patterns of growth and development, discipline, and other topics as requested by our parents. The first school parent meeting, held in August, is an Orientation meeting and attendance is essential. At this meeting, teachers discuss the upcoming year and present information that will further your understanding of our school and your child’s classroom. This information can change from year to year, so be sure to attend every fall. Parents are encouraged to observe during school hours once school is well under way and the children are accustomed to their daily routine and environment. Parents interested in sharing a particular skill, organizing field trips, reading with the children, helping with the classroom garden, and making classroom materials should feel free to speak with the child’s teacher. These and other volunteer jobs are listed on sign-up sheets available at the beginning of each school year. Check with the school before throwing anything away! We often can use items which you no longer need, such as paper bags, trays, paper, pitchers, buckets, fabric, yarn, art supplies, etc. Parents play a major role in school social events such as the Halloween Party, Winter Party and Earth Day. Plan to attend open Friends of Sunrise meetings, morning coffees, Montessori in the Morning, and read the newsletters to learn ways to participate in your child’s school experience.
Parent Involvement. Parents will be invited by the teacher to help out various times throughout the year.
Parent Involvement. Parents provide a large and indispensable contribution in making our school a productive educational experience. Our parents may volunteer as: classroom helpers, pizza day helpers, field trip chaperones, and/or room parents. Parents are asked to refrain from bringing their younger children with them when volunteering during the school day. We ask this so that your full attention is paid to school-age children. As per the Archdiocese of Chicago, Office of Catholic Schools, parents volunteering in the school or for a school function must fill out a Criminal Background Check, a CANTS form (DCFS background check), a Code of Conduct form AND go through a Virtus training session. *Directions are posted on our website. It is important to note that parents working in classrooms have access to confidential information concerning the behavioral and academic progress of our children. Discretion should be used in discussing the difficulties involved in that progress. It is recommended that parents work in a classroom other than that of their child/children. The teachers also make room mother selections in order that the opportunity may be rotated to those interested parents. The responsibilities of the room moms and the events in which they aid the teachers are outlined in the following section. Room mothers/fathers act as coordinators for parties which Grades K through 4 have during the course of the year and for the Olympic Day at the end of the school year. Each teacher will contact his/her room mothers/fathers to arrange a meeting to discuss topics such as planning and playing games, physical presence at parties, etc. It is strongly recommended by the Archdiocese of Chicago and St. Xxxxxxx School that ALL parents participate in the Virtus Training program which includes: Virtus Training session, criminal background check, DCFS background check, and Code of Conduct. There may be times during the school year that parents are welcomed into the classrooms. Meeting this requirement allows you to participate in any classroom special event. Kindergarten through 3rd Grade Parties – Parties will begin at 1:00 PM and end promptly at 2:00 PM. Room Parents are asked to arrive no sooner than 12:45 PM. Parties: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day. The 4th and 5th grade students will enjoy a movie and snack on party days.
