THE SCHOOL CALENDAR. Prior to a recommendation to the School Board concerning the school year calendar, the Superintendent will consult with and consider the suggestions of the representatives of the Association in that regard and in the use and placement of workshop days. Final decisions concerning the school calendar shall remain the sole and exclusive responsibility of the Board. In the event that the calendar includes release days, each school will establish a team to work with the principal to plan the agenda for those days. Te a m members will be elected by the teaching staff in each building in an election conducted by the Bu ild in g Ad min ist rat ion following procedures developed jointly with the Association and reviewed with the Superintendent. The teacher work day on teacher workshop days shall be of seven (7) hours duration. There will be two (2) workshop days before the students’ first day of school. At least seven (7) hours during those two ( 2) workshop days will be meeting-free and uninterrupted for teacher preparations, but the s e v en ( 7) hours need not all be on the same day. If the seven ( 7) hours are split over two ( 2) days, the blocks of time for teacher preparation will be in increments of at least t h r ee ( 3) hours. The agenda for these days will be finalized no later than August 25th. Once the school year calendar has been adopted and prior to making any recommendations to the School Board relative to modification therein, the Superintendent will, if possible and if time and circumstances permit, consult with the Association and consider their recommendations. A nurse may schedule workshop days before the start of the school year in lieu of attending teacher workshop days if the nurse requests his/her building principal for permission to do so and the principal agrees.

However, the Child Study Team members, will work up to ten (10) additional days during the summer months, at their per diem rate, to meet required program needs for students. The dates to be worked in the summer by the Child Study Team shall be mutually agreed upon between team member and administrator, except where their presence is required in a mediation/due process proceeding or in preparation thereof. In addition, all other coordinators/program specialists who are required to work during the summer and perform the same jobs as they do during the contractual school year shall be paid at his/her per diem rate. Any nurse who is employed in the summer, in the same capacity as during the regular school year, shall be paid on a per diem basis. In addition, four (4) emergency school closing days may be added to the calendar. The Board shall discuss with the Association: (1) as to where unused emergency closing days, if any, shall be eliminated from the calendar, (2) and, in the event that more than four (4) emergency school closing days are used, where in the calendar those days shall be made up. b. There shall be a minimum day for students and teachers on the dates when Back-to-School Nights and evening parent-teacher conferences are scheduled and the day prior to the Thanksgiving and the December holiday recess. c. Parent teacher conferences for all teachers shall be no more than three (3) evening conferences and two (2) full day conferences. Additional conference time shall be scheduled for kindergarten teachers, if necessary.
THE SCHOOL CALENDAR. Item 1. The work year of all teachers employed in this district, except as stated in Article VI, Section E, shall begin no earlier than September 1 and end no later than June 30 of each year. Item 2. The work year of all teachers employed in this district, except as stated in Article VI, Section E, are as follows: a) 185 days will be scheduled between September 1 and June 30. b) Any unused emergency closing days, beyond the maximum number of days in the teachers’ work year, will be returned to the Association on a date or dates to be determined by the Superintendent, in consultation with the Association. c) Three (3) of the 185 days will be extended time days that constitute the 186th day. On these days students will attend school as per their regular schedule. Teachers will work from 7:45 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. The time from 3:15 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. will be used for professional development activities. There shall be a moratorium on this provision effective February 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013, when the moratorium shall be lifted. d) The Superintendent, in consultation with the Professional Staff Development Committee, will determine the three (3) extended time days. In addition, alternate dates will be scheduled in the event the schools are closed for an emergency on an extended time day. The dates, including the alternate ones, will be shared with the district teachers at the opening Superintendent’s Conference Day. e) If a Personal Day With/Without Reason is approved for any of the extended time days or a teacher is absent for personal or family illness on any of the extended time days, the teacher will be required to make up the two (2) hours of professional development time with the approval of his/her respective building administrator. f) If a teacher is involved in a district sponsored after-school program or co-curricular activity on an extended time day, he/she will be required to make up the two (2) hours of professional development time with the approval of his/her respective building administrator.

The Coordinator shall be compensated at his annual prorated salary, which shall be defined as 1/200 of the annual salary. In addition, all other coordinators/program specialists who are required to work during the summer and perform the same jobs as they do during the contractual school year shall be paid at his/her per diem rate. THE SCHOOL CALENDAR. The Board and Association agree that a proposed annual school calendar shall be presented to the Association’s Representative Assembly in February for consideration, input, and discussion before being presented to the Board for approval in March. A committee composed of two (2) representatives from each school and the central office (one chosen by the Board; and one chosen by the Association shall meet in January to submit a calendar proposal. These names and the date of the first meeting shall be recorded in the Board minutes of the September meeting. The Coordinator of curriculum and Instruction shall serve as chairperson and notify the members of the meeting date(s).
