Relief Work and Preservation of Rates. 21.1 An employee temporarily assigned for one hour or more, cumulative, in any one day, to a higher rated position, shall receive the higher rate while occupying such position, due regard being had to apprentice or graded rates. An employee temporarily assigned to a lower-rated position shall not have his rate reduced.

INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK Paragraph shall not apply to a weekly rated employee who is filling a higher-rated position through a higher-rated employee being absent from duty with pay due to sickness or similar cause, other than vacation. An employee engaged temporarily or an employee temporarily promoted, on account of an employee being off duty without pay due to sickness or similar cause, or on vacation with pay, shall receive the rate applicable to the position on which employed. The classifications and rates of pay for additional positions established on staffs covered by this agreement shall be in conformity with classificationsand rates of pay for positions of similar kind or class covered by this agreement. Established positions shall not be discontinued and new ones created covering relatively the same class of work for the purpose of reducing the rate of pay. No change shall be made in agreed classifications or basic rates of pay for individual positions unless warranted by changed conditions resulting in changes in the character of the duties or responsibilities. When changes in classifications basic rates of pay are proposed, or when it is considered that a position is improperly classified or rated, the work of the positions affected will be reviewed and compared with the duties and responsibilities of comparable positions by the proper officer of the Company and the designated Representative of the Union, with the object of reaching agreement on revised and/or rates to maintain for positions .on which the duties and responsibilitiesare relatively the same. ARTICLE Service Letters The Company will, within days from date of employment, all service cards and letters of taken up for inspection by the Company, except for those addressed to or issued by the Company. Employees dismissed or leaving the service of their own accord, after giving due notice, will, upon request, be given the usual letter of reference and will be paid as soon as possible. ARTICLE

Relief Work and Preservation of Rates. 7.1 Higher rated position (1999) An employee temporarily assigned to a higher rated position for three (3) hours or more and fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities of such position, shall receive the higher rate for the full day. Should the temporary assignment be less than three (3) hours, he/she shall receive the rate of his/her regularly assigned position. Assisting a higher rated employee due to a temporary increase in the volume of work does not constitute a temporary assignment to a higher rated position.

Relief Work and Preservation of Rates. 3.1 Unassigned Yardmasters who desire to retain and accumulate seniority under this agreement, must protect, in seniority order, all relief work and extra service as Yardmaster or Assistant Yardmaster in the yard in which employed except that they may have up to ten hours off duty between tours of duty if so desired. An unassigned Yardmaster who is available and who declines to protect work under this paragraph shall forfeit his seniority rights and his name shall be removed from the seniority list.
