Remuneration for Training. The parties agree to the following provision, on a trial basis. The parties agree that the intent of Article is to provide Association members with training, for up to four (4) days per year, at no greater than straight time cost to the Employer. The functioning of this language will be reviewed after six months and again after one year from the date of ratification of the collective bargaining agreement. After the trial, if the parties are unable to agree on a remuneration practice, either party may request the assistance of a neutral third party (mediator)to assist in the discussion. When employees train during their off duty hours, they will be compensated at straight time in the following manner: Employees will have the option of banking time equivalent to the number of hours scheduled in a year for training. Requests for time off will be "mutually agreed" 'Mutually agreed" will mean agreement between the parties. Requests for this banked time will not be granted if the request will result in automatic overtime costs. Requests will be granted on a first come, first sewed basis. Requests for time off must be made no earlier than days before the desired date, and no than hours prior to the desired date. Lieu days will not be granted during prime vacation time or on weekends. Remuneration for Training. An Employee taking part in any training courses outside his/her regular working hours, as approved by the Fire Chief, shall be compensated at 1 ½ his/her regular rate of pay. At the time of the training, the Employee shall determine if he/she will paid out at this overtime rate of pay or bank this time at 1 ½ , for future time off, to be taken at a mutually agreeable time, as determined by the Fire Chief and the Employee It is agreed that the regularly scheduled once a week POC training (Tuesday evening), off duty members will be compensated at straight time rates of pay. Except for cases mutually agreed by the Employer and the Employee, time spent in such training shall be reimbursed by allowing the Employee equivalent time off (at straight time rates of pay) without loss of pay. Personal development training as requested by the Employee in Article 13.05 will continue to be compensated as per current practice.
