Seniority Layoff Rehire Sample Clauses
The SENIORITY, LAYOFF, REHIRE clause establishes the rules for determining which employees are affected during workforce reductions and how they are prioritized for reemployment. Typically, this clause specifies that employees with greater seniority—meaning longer service with the employer—are given preference in retaining their positions during layoffs and are also prioritized for recall if positions become available again. For example, if a company must reduce staff, those with the least seniority are usually laid off first, and when rehiring, those previously laid off with the most seniority are offered positions before others. This clause ensures a fair and transparent process for managing layoffs and rehires, reducing disputes and providing job security based on length of service.
