Sick Leave (Guaranteed. Each full-time teacher shall accumulate sick leave at the rate of fifteen (15) days per school year. The leave shall be at full pay and, in the event a teacher does not use the full amount of annual leave thus allowed, the unused amount shall accumulate on an unlimited basis. Sick leave shall be interpreted to mean personal illness, quarantine at home, serious illness or death in the immediate family (parents, spouse, brothers, sisters, children, grandparents, grandchildren, parents-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and legal guardians) of the teacher or household (any person who resides with the teacher), birth, adoption or placement for adoption to the extent permitted by Section 24-6 of the School Code. If a teacher does not take parental leave, available sick leave may be used for pregnancy and pregnancy related conditions, on the same basis as sick leave may be used for other disabilities, for the greater of thirty (30) work days or the work days during the period of actual disability following the birth of the child. A teacher whose child is born after the start of the teacher’s work year may use available FMLA leave immediately following the use of no more than thirty (30) days of sick leave commensurate with the period of disability. Similarly, a teacher who adopts a child and does not take a parental leave, may use available sick leave for no more than thirty (30) work days immediately followed by available unpaid FMLA leave. With either birth or adoption, teachers who have sufficient available sick leave may take up to an additional eighteen (18) work days of sick leave concurrent with FMLA leave on days thirty-one (31) through forty-eight (48) of the remaining portion of the FMLA leave will be unpaid. However, if the birth or adoption occurs during the summer, winter or spring breaks, sick leave shall run concurrently with FMLA leave to the extent the teacher is no longer disabled due to the birth and delivery of the child or the adopted child is received during such breaks. It is the intent of the Board and the Association that, in connection with the adoption or birth and recovery from delivery of the child, the teacher has at least eighteen (18) weeks of time away from work with the newborn or adopted child, including summer, winter and spring breaks and twelve (12) weeks of available FMLA leave.   • Sick Leave Payoff Employee with accrued, unused sick leave may, at the time of separation, select one of the following options for reimbursement:

  • Sick Leave Exhausted (a) After earned sick leave has been exhausted, the Agency shall grant sick leave without pay for any job-incurred injury or illness for a period which shall terminate upon demand by the employee for reinstatement accompanied by a certificate issued by the duly licensed attending physician that the employee is physically and/or mentally able to perform the duties of the position.

  • Sick Leave Payment Any employee, at his/her option may choose to receive payment for sick leave earned during the year which is unused at the end of the year. Any such payment must be for the total number of unused sick leave hours earned during the year, must be based on the hourly rate of pay of the employee multiplied by 50 percent, and all hours for which payment is received must be deducted from the employee’s accumulated leave balance. Sick leave used during a current year will be charged against the most recently earned sick leave. Hourly rate of pay is the hourly rate at the end of the contract year.

  • Paid Sick Leave Employees shall earn and be granted paid sick leave according to the following provisions:

  • Sick Leave Abuse ‌ When the Employer suspects sick leave abuse, the employee will be provided the opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding their sick leave use prior to disciplining the employee, or making reference to sick leave use in the employee’s performance evaluation. The Employer may not adopt or enforce any policy that counts the use of paid sick leave time as an absence that may lead to or result in disciplinary action for an authorized purpose. The Employer may not discriminate or retaliate against an employee for the use of paid sick leave for an authorized purpose.

  • Sick Leave The employee is eligible for long term disability benefits if provided for in the Collective Agreement. An employee will not receive pay for the first two (2) weeks of any period of absence due to a legitimate illness. The employee may utilize the paid holiday bank as income replacement for absences due to illness, as described in Article (c) above. An employee who is eligible may apply for Employment Insurance for weeks three (3) through seventeen (17) for any absence due to a legitimate illness. The Home will provide the employee with Disability Income Protection as per Article 14.01 (c) for weeks eighteen (18) through thirty (30) for any absence due to a legitimate illness. Employees may be required to provide medical proof of illness for any absence of a scheduled shift, which is neither vacation nor an approved leave of absence.

  • Unpaid Sick Leave The City Manager shall, upon the advice and recommendation of the City physician, grant unpaid sick leave for up to one (1) year upon application of any employee whose paid sick leave is exhausted. Any extension of such leave shall be subject to the Civil Service Board rules.

  • Sick Leave Donation In accord with state law and Medical Center policy, RN’s may donate sick leave to any employee entitled to receive such donations.

  • SICK LEAVE (Continued 15.8 Sick leave not to exceed forty (40) hours may be utilized by employees for the birth or adoption of the employee’s child or a child regularly residing in the employee’s immediate household. The leave must be consecutive and taken within six (6) months of the birth or adoption.

  • Sick Leave Accrual Full-time employees will accrue eight (8) hours of sick leave in a calendar month. Part- time employees will accrue sick leave credit on the same proportional basis that their employment schedule bears to a full-time schedule, up to a maximum of eight (8) hours in a calendar month.
