Stakeholder Workshops. Three stakeholder workshops were organized covering the following themes: health and well-being, Arctic ecosystems and ecosystem services, and climate-related effects on the Arctic cryosphere and adaptation options. These half-day workshops were held in conjunction with large polar conferences and built upon the input from sessions held during the respective conference. During the workshops scientific experts from a wide range to social and natural science disciplines from Europe and North America, representatives from indigenous peoples, local communities and practitioners discussed stakeholder relevant research needs, which will be incorporated in the integrated European polar research programme.

Stakeholder Workshops. People absorb information in different ways. As more is learned about the project stakeholders, the typical workshop format will be adapted to cater to different types and levels of participation. At this time, we would suggest the workshops be structured as follows: a presentation to the group on project status, followed by breaking into smaller groups led by a facilitator to discuss a list of predetermined questions. We also recommend that at the end of the workshop, the whole group reconvene to share comments and ideas. We have found this sequence of techniques allows common information to be shared, but also allows for opinions and questions to be more freely shared in a smaller setting. The predetermined questions provide focus and ensure that feedback is received on specific issues that are important to the project. Other techniques will be employed to effectively respond to stakeholder feedback. The placement of workshops within the project schedule is based on key input or decision points in the project. Our project team will work with RCRRA to ensure that workshops are timed to offer valuable opportunities for stakeholder input. It is important that stakeholders feel that their time and opinion is valued, so they will remain engaged throughout the project process. We will conduct up to three workshops (introductory, mid-term and final), to be held in a central location that is convenient for most parties. For each workshop, we will prepare a project update presentation, a list of questions to facilitate discussion, and up to three project handouts or illustrations. Following each workshop, a summary will be prepared for the project management and TAG meetings. Responses to specific comments, or grouped as common comments, will also be prepared and posted to the county website following review by RCRRA.
