Travel Within the District. 15 Reimbursement for travel expenses of certificated employees shall be limited to those cases where work 16 requires regular and frequent travel from school to school and the Director of Human Resources has 17 approved reimbursement. When needed, adjustments will be made to provide reasonable travel time as 18 follows: 20 1. For traditionally itinerant employees (librarians, music teachers, elementary PE teachers, ELL 21 teachers, nurses, SLPs, etc.) the first priority is to schedule their work day so that travel time can 22 be accommodated within the work day, along with contractual planning time and lunch break. 24 2. If an employee is placed in assignments at more than one site during a work day (a split 25 assignment), and the work schedule cannot be adjusted to accommodate travel, contractual 26 planning time and lunch break, then the addresses of the sites will be entered into the directions 27 function of xxxxxxxx.xxx to establish a standard mileage and time for travel between the two 28 sites. The employee will submit monthly mileage claims based on the number of days during the 29 month that the employee traveled between work sites, using the xxxxxxxx.xxx mileage. Mileage 30 claims shall not be submitted for days the employee was absent or otherwise did not travel 31 between the sites. 33 3. The employee will be compensated on a monthly basis, at the per diem rate for that employee, 34 for the time determined by xxxxxxxx.xxx, plus ten minutes, per day that travel was required, as 35 compensation for lost planning time. This compensation will be suspended for leaves of 36 absence, but not for short term absences. In the event the employee is unable to complete the 37 required travel in the time allowed on a substantial and consistent basis, the employee will 38 document actual travel time and request an increase in the time allowed. In the event the 39 employee encounters occasional or seasonal instances when the allotted travel time is 40 insufficient, the employee may log those instances and request at the end of the year that the 41 extra time be balanced against any absences when the employee was compensated for travel time 42 any way. If the balance favors the employee by at least 30 minutes, the employee will be 43 compensated for the difference. 44 45 4. The District will meet with the Association by October 1 of each year to review travel time allotted for employees who are regularly required to travel between buildings as a requirement of their job. When needed, adjustments will be made to provide reasonable travel time.
