Union Days. 16.81 The Union shall be granted the use of ten (10) days per year for the purpose of Union business or membership related activities upon prior notification to the Human Resources Administrator. These days can be used as full days per member or in any hourly increment as requested by the Union President and will be tracked by the Human Resources office. Notification will include the name of the member(s) and the assignment(s) and the incremental hourly usage requested.

Union Days. The amount of available days for VNC related union work for easyJet union business (allocated union days) will be maximum 24 days per individual per annum. The VNC representatives shall inform easyJet of the day on which they wish to use the union time-off with a minimum 45 days’ notice prior to roster publication to prevent roster disruption. Extra Union days will normally be supported and granted when needed for: - union training, although VNC agrees to try and schedule training to the winter season - representation days for preparation and CLA talks (the number and schedule needs to be agreed with easyJet) The items above are not included in the allocated easyJet union days. Additionally, easyJet is supportive of VNC, easyJet representatives undertaking activity as part of VNC head office topics. Any membership or participation in group activities should be discussed and agreed with easyJet. This will include the provision of additional union duty days to support the activities. Once membership or participation has been agreed, additional union duty days will be granted provided sufficient notice (45 days) has been given. Time-off for union duties will be compensated with basic pay and 3.5 nominal sectors. Nominal sectors for a full union day/duty or the appropriate pro-rata amount i.e. UNN4 (half-day).

The Union shall be allowed a total of 100 days over the course of this contract to be utilized by the Union for the purpose of attending conventions, seminars, conferences, and meetings necessary to advance the knowledge of its members for both education of administering the union contract and furthering the continuing education of its members in the business of healthcare and the art of nursing. The Union will give the Center two weeks notice or as soon as practicable of its intention to use union days.

The Union may use a maximum of eighteen (18) days per academic year for the purpose of employer paid participation by unit members in contract enforcement or administration, appearance before an agency in a matter involving this employer; other legitimate Union business or for collective bargaining at times not agreed to by the employer. The superintendent or his her designee may in the exercise of its discretion agree to grant additional time with pay for the purpose of collective bargaining. The Union shall provide the superintendent or his or her designee notice in advance if a matter is previously scheduled. In other instances, and to the extent feasible, the Union shall provide the employer with twenty four hours notice. This requirement shall not apply in an emergency.

It is recognized that administrators may object to joining the Union. It is also recognized that the proper negotiation and administration of a collective bargaining agreement entails expense to the Union. The Union indemnifies and holds harmless the Board of Education, its members and employees from claims made by any member of the bargaining unit with respect to the application of this provision of the collective bargaining agreement. The Union shall assume the responsibility for defending the board against any and all claims, demands, suits, expenses or other forms of liability, imposed as a consequence of the board’s compliance with this provision of the collective bargaining agreement. The Union shall select and employ counsel chosen by the Union and shall pay any judgment levied against the Board of Education its members or employees.
