Union Conference. Upon written request received at least one (1) week in advance, leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority will be granted to not more than six (6) employees, selected or appointed, to attend Union conventions or conferences for an aggregate of not more than thirty (30) days in any calendar year. Union Conference. Members of the Union elected to attend a function of the International Union such as conferences shall be allowed time off without loss of pay, not to exceed one-half day per month and not to exceed twelve (12) days in three (3) years and not more than one employee at a given time.
Union Conference. The Employer agrees to grant leave of absence without pay to a maximum of 2 employees at the same time who are elected or appointed in accordance with the rules of the union as a delegate to or member of the National Council or the National Executive or a branch Annual Conference or a branch Committee of Management to attend any meeting of the same which the employee is entitled to attend provided that:
(a) Reasonable notice has been given to the Employer; and
(b) Such absence will not unduly interfere with the business of the Employer.
Union Conference. 1. The Union shall have up to 160 hours per fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) of leave to be used for chapter delegates to attend the annual Union Conference.
2. The Union shall reimburse the District for the actual costs incurred for the use of a substitute. Substitutes will not be used where they are not normally provided. The reimbursement amount shall not exceed the salary of the unit members on leave. Reimbursement shall not be provided when a substitute is not used or when the unit member elects to use approved compensatory or vacation time or takes unpaid leave. Requests to use compensatory or vacation time will not be unreasonably denied.
3. The Union shall submit a written request to the Deputy Administrative Officer, Human Resource Services Division, or designee, for all such leave sufficiently in advance, but not less than one (1) month prior to the intended absence.
Union Conference. Each officer and xxxxxxx of the Union who is designated to attend any convention, meeting, conference or workshop sponsored by the Union shall be permitted to attend such function without pay for up to three (3) working days per year.
Union Conference. 19.01 Two members from different Departments of the Health Unit elected or appointed to represent the Union at a conference, convention or other Union business may, with the approval of the head of the department and on the recommendation of the Employer, be granted sufficient leave of absence, without pay, to attend such convention, conference or other Union business for a period not to exceed two (2) weeks for each in any one year.
19.02 During such leave, the Employer shall continue to pay the employee(s) and xxxx the Union for the wages involved, and the Union will pay the appropriate billing.
19.03 A Union member appointed or elected to a full-time position by the Union may be granted a five (5) month leave of absence without pay, the said member to be permitted to maintain medical hospital provisions by direct payment to the Employer of such premiums as may apply.
Union Conference. (a) Three (3) members of the Union elected or appointed to represent the Union at a conference, convention or other Union business may, with approval of the Manager, be granted sufficient absence without pay to attend such conventions, conferences or other Union business. The names of the representatives and one other alternate shall be submitted to the Manager three (3) weeks in advance and if the representative is unable to attend, due to personal reasons, the alternate shall be allowed to go. The Employer agrees to continue the employee’s pay and benefits for the period of the Union business leave and the Union will reimburse the Employer for the wages.
(b) Union membership appointed or elected to a full-time position by the Union may be granted a six (6) month leave of absence without pay; the said member to be permitted to maintain medical/hospital provisions by direct payment to the Employer for such premiums as may apply. Medical/hospital benefits will be made available at the employee’s cost subject to approval of the insurer.
(c) Three (3) members of the Union elected or appointed to represent the Union at the annual Health Care Co-ordinating Committee Conference (HCWCC), with the approval of the immediate Manager, may be granted time off to attend such conference. The names of the representatives and one alternate shall be submitted to the immediate Manager four (4) weeks in advance and if one of the named representatives is unable to attend the alternate shall be allowed to go in place of that representative. The Employer agrees to continue the employee’s pay and benefits for the period of such conference leave and the Union will reimburse the Employer for fifty percent (50%) of the wages for the period.
Union Conference. (a) The Employer, at its discretion, will grant a temporary leave of absence to one (1) member of the Union who is a full time employee to attend a union convention, seminar, educational class and other Union business not related to any labour relations activity involving the Employer and that cannot be conducted after normal business hours. If an immediate operational issue arises after granting the leave of absence, it is understood that such leave may be revoked to accommodate the operational needs but will be rescheduled where possible. Such leave will not be unreasonably denied.
i) It is understood that the request and approval will be in writing. A request will be submitted with at least four (4) week‟s notice unless mutually agreed upon.
ii) Leaves of absence which alter the normal hours of work shall not be granted.
iii) During such a leave, it shall be without pay and without loss of seniority. In such cases, the employee‟s base wages and applicable benefits (e.g. benefits, vacation, WSIB, etc.) will be maintained by the Employer on the basis of what the normal regular hours of work would have been and then forwarded to the Union for payment. This arrangement is conditional on the Union reimbursing the Employer for such wages and benefit premiums within thirty (30) days of billing. If there is a Workers Compensation claim on the employee while off, the Union will make the Employer whole for such a claim. It is understood that there will be no duplication of benefits or monies paid to the employee during this leave.
iv) It is understood that another employee may act as a replacement or another arrangement may be made during this period.
v) It is understood that the total days under a) and b) taken shall not exceed fifteen (15) working days in a calendar year.
(b) The Employer, at its discretion, will grant a temporary leave of absence to one (1) member of the Union who is a full time employee if such person is elected to the position of Local President where such is defined as covering more than this bargaining unit in the Local and is a non-paying volunteer position and such leave cannot be conducted after normal business hours.
