Unrestricted Leave. The District may grant a one (1) year leave of absence without pay to a permanent unit member for a reason that is mutually agreed to be of benefit to the District and the unit member. The request for an unrestricted leave of absence must be received by the Human Resource Services Division no later than March 1. An unrestricted leave of absence shall begin at the beginning of an academic school year and shall end at the conclusion of the same academic school year. An unrestricted leave is not renewable.
Unrestricted Leave. Upon request one (1) year unrestricted leave may be granted to any employee for each accumulated seven (7) years of service in the district for whatever reason the employee desires.
Unrestricted Leave. 9-11.1 Any teacher who has worked five (5) or more years in the Warwick Public Schools shall be granted upon request a full school year leave without pay or benefits. The following conditions shall apply:
(A) Request for such leave shall be made on or before April 1 of the school year.
(B) The request must be for a full school year leave -- September to June -- of the next school year.
(C) The leave must be separated from any other authorized leave by one complete school year.
(D) Unrestricted leave shall not be granted more than once every five (5) years.
(E) A teacher on such leave shall be eligible to remain in all health and other insurance plans at his/her own expense.
(F) Where two or more teachers apply for such leave from the same department or area, and where all requests cannot be granted, the most senior teachers who have not previously been on such leave shall be granted said leave.
Unrestricted Leave. Members may elect to obtain a one year leave of absence without specification of the reason therefore upon submission of a request by July 10. In the event that a member so requesting a leave desires to return to employment, he shall notify the Department of Human Resources in writing prior to July 10. No member may apply for a leave of absence under this provision more than two (2) times, and no leave may be taken except upon the expiration of a five year period of continuous service. The period of such leave shall be one (1) school year. The Board shall not be obligated to purchase retirement credit for any member not returning to the employment of the Board subsequent to an unrestricted leave. Requests to initiate, or return from, an Unrestricted Leave made after July 10 may be submitted by mutual agreement of the Superintendent and the President.
Unrestricted Leave a. The School Corporation will provide fourteen (14) days of unrestricted leave per teacher per year. Days are awarded on the first day contracted. The unrestricted leave days may be used for any reason. However, a teacher may not take more than three (3) consecutive unrestricted leave days, or any day immediately before or after a scheduled school break without medical documentation of illness, unless otherwise approved by the Superintendent. b. When using unrestricted leave, the teacher shall submit a completed leave form prior to the intended leave to the Principal, who will initial the request and submit it to the Superintendent. The leave form will state the date and duration of the leave.
c. At the end of each school year, any unused unrestricted leave days shall be added to the teacher's accumulated sick leave.

An employee may request an unrestricted leave of absence to work in a different department within the Akron Public Schools. This request shall be limited to ninety (90) calendar days and will coincide with the employee’s probationary period in the new classification. The employee must decide within this ninety (90) calendar day period to either return to their previous position or continue in the new classification.
