Absence definition

Absence means that no family member is residing in the unit.
Absence or “absent” means the failure of a school-age child assigned to a class or class period to attend a class or class period. “Absence” or “absent” does not mean multiple tardies used to calculate an absence for the sake of a truancy.
Absence means an excused absence, unexcused absence or disciplinary absence, as those terms are defined by the State Board of Education or an in-school suspension that is greater than or equal to one-half of a school day.

Examples of Absence in a sentence

  • Staff who are on extended leaves of absence, such as FMLA or Unpaid Leave of Absence are not eligible for bereavement leave.

  • In the event that the original position(s) no longer exists, the incumbent shall return to an assignment that the teacher would have received but for the Leave of Absence.

  • If payment of premiums has been discontinued during any such period of Temporary Absence then the benefit of the Member may be recommenced without evidence of health following the Member’s completion of two consecutive calendar months without absence in his normal occupation after return to work.

  • Absence for this purpose shall not be counted as an occasion under the Board’s attendance program nor will the absence be considered in the employee’s annual evaluation.

  • For this purpose normal occupation means the occupation followed by the Member immediately prior to the commencement of his Temporary Absence.


More Definitions of Absence

Absence is the period an employee is absent from work either with or without pay (except a paid vacation period), computed by subtracting the date following the last day worked from the date the employee returns to work. Each separate continuous period away from work shall be treated as a single absence from work.
Absence means a duly appointed member is not present at or able to take part in a meeting.
