Cultural Leadership Allowance. The parties agree to introduce Cultural Leadership allowance positions of $5,000 per annum from 28 January 2024. This allowance will be for tumuaki | principals who are leading kura and schools with at least Level 1 or Level 2 immersion programmes (te reo Māori and/or Pacific language immersion). The agreed wording is included in the tracked change collective agreement (see clause 6.2.11).
Cultural Leadership Allowance. 3.37.1 From 28 January 2024, the parties agree to introduce a Cultural Leadership allowance. The purpose of this allowance is to build the cultural capability and expertise required of all teachers, for example a holder of the allowance may coach their peers in developing inclusive classroom environments and learning programmes that enhance Māori or Pacific students’ learning, participation and wellbeing. These allowances will also help retain and further cultivate Māori and/or Pacific specialist expertise, knowledge and cultural leadership that already exists in schools and kura.
Cultural Leadership Allowance. 3.36.1 From 28 January 2024, a Cultural Leadership allowance will be introduced, the number of which will be generated by formula in the Staffing Order.
Cultural Leadership Allowance. 1. From the start of 2024, 100 recognition allowances, each of $5,000 per annum will be established. The allowance would recognise individual teachers’ leadership and expertise in Te Ao Māori and could be allocated to teachers, head teachers or senior teachers.

This will come into effect from 28 January 2024, enabling the parties to determine criteria for accessing the allowance and to work through other related administrative requirements. We expect any final guidance and eligibility criteria to reflect the position that cultural skills and competencies are a responsibility of all kaiako.
