The 'Emergency Employees' clause defines the rights, responsibilities, or special provisions applicable to employees designated to work during emergencies. Typically, this clause outlines which employees are considered essential in crisis situations, such as natural disasters or public health emergencies, and may specify expectations regarding their availability, compensation, or duties during such events. Emergency Employees. Emergency employees shall mean those employees who have been hired by the Port to meet temporary needs. Such employees are hired without the necessary posting requirements to qualify them for regular employment. The employment period for an emergency employee shall not exceed one hundred eighty (180) calendar days between employment and termination.

Emergency Employees. Emergency employees perform duties essential to the continuity of facilities or other crucial operations and are required to be at work regardless of emergency situations or authorization for general dismissal. The Employer ensures that emergency employees are notified of the special requirements placed on them to report to or remain at their worksites during emergency conditions for which general dismissal is authorized. Emergency employees who do not report for work as required may be charged annual leave, sick leave, credit hours, compensatory time earned, LWOP, or AWOL if appropriate. Organizations will identify services that must be provided during emergency situations and positions that are designated to provide those services on a regular and recurring basis. A list of these positions will be provided to the Union on an annual basis. Supervisors will inform employees of their emergency status prior to their employment, annually thereafter, or as changes occur, to allow employees time to make appropriate arrangements.
Emergency Employees. Telecommunicators within a period of fifteen (15) months from either their appointment to an Emergency Employee position or completion of their probationary period (if any), whichever occurs later, must reside within the residential boundaries described in Appendix “D-1”. The area allowed for residency is that which falls within a circle with a thirty (30) mile radius, centered on the DeKalb Police Department (▇▇▇ ▇. ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Hwy.). If any portion of the employee’s property touches the boundary lines, the employee may live on either side of the boundary line. The boundaries are depicted in Appendix “D-1”, attached hereto and made a part hereof. All other Emergency Employees within a period of fifteen (15) months from either their appointment to an Emergency Employee position or completion of their probationary period (if any), whichever occurs later, must reside within the residential boundaries described in Appendix “D-2”. If any portion of the incorporated limits of a city, town or village touches the boundaries, all of the city, town or village shall be included within the area. The area allowed for residency is bordered by Route 47 (eastern boundary), Ogle/ northern DeKalb County Line (northern boundary), Route 251 (western boundary) and Chicago Road (southern boundary. If any portion of the employee’s property touches the boundary lines, the employee may live on either side of the boundary line. The boundaries are depicted in Appendix “D-2”, attached hereto and made a part hereof. Any emergency employee other than Telecommunicators hired prior to January 1, 2025 will not be required to move into the residency boundaries established in Appendix “D-2” unless they move from their current address.

Emergency Employees. Employees who are hired pursuant to Section 4.2 of these Rules to meet the immediate requirements of an emergency condition, such as extraordinary fire, flood or earthquake which threatens life or property. Emergency employees are to report to, or remain at work in emergency situations to protect life, safety, health, or property. The Employer will provide written notification to all employees of their inclusion or removal from the list of emergency employees. Employees designated as emergency employees must make every effort to report for work, or remain at work in emergency situations. The Employer will provide the Union with a list of the names, positions, and work locations of all emergency employees once designated. Updates to the list will be provided annually.
