Advanced Sick Leave. 24.1.1 The Sheriff and Human Resources Director may authorize an advance of up to sixty (60) hours of Sick Leave to a Lateral Transfer Employee for immediate use upon appointment. Such hours will be used in accordance with Article 23 (Sick Leave) and no additional hours shall accrue until the advanced hours are “earned out” in accordance with the accrual schedule.
Advanced Sick Leave. The College may advance up to sixty (60) days of advanced sick leave to an employee in any twelve month period for the employee’s own serious illness or disability if the employee had used all leave with pay which has been credited to the employee. The employee shall submit a request for advanced sick leave in writing to the College’s Executive Director of Human Resources. The Executive Director of Human Resources shall provide written notice of the approval or disapproval of the request to the employee. The employee shall agree in writing that any advanced sick leave must be repaid in accord with this Article. The use of advanced sick leave by an employee constitutes a debt for which payment shall be enforceable upon the employee's return to work, and shall continue to be enforceable upon the employee's transfer from one agency to another or upon termination. Reimbursement shall be made at the minimum rate of 1/2 of the rate of sick leave and annual leave earned, and at the employee's discretion by applying credited annual leave, personal leave, sick leave, compensatory leave or cash payments. Any leave accrued during the period of advanced leave will be applied to the leave.
Advanced Sick Leave i. Sick leave may be advanced to bargaining unit employees who have exhausted all of their available sick leave. The advancement of sick leave is not a bargaining unit employee entitlement.
ii. A full-time bargaining unit employee may be granted up to a maximum of 30 days (240 hours) of advance sick leave for a personal illness, medical appointments, adoption purposes, or to provide care for a family member. The total amount of sick leave that may be advanced to a part-time bargaining unit employee is prorated based on his/her tour of duty.
iii. A bargaining unit employee may repay advanced sick leave by one of the following:
a) A charge against annual leave, provided this action is not for the purpose of avoiding a forfeiture of annual leave at the end of the annual leave year;
b) Substituting donated leave, received under the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program, for the advance sick leave;
c) Accrual of sick leave; or
d) A monetary settlement upon separation from Federal service.
Advanced Sick Leave. A. An employee who sustains a temporary, recoverable illness, injury, or serious disability may be eligible to borrow up to sixty (60) days of sick leave in any one calendar year. This advanced sick leave may be granted by the Associate Vice President, Human Resources or designee at the rate of fifteen (15) days for each year of the employee's completed USM/State service. In addition, the employee must have a satisfactory record of work performance and sick leave usage and must have exhausted available paid leave.
B. Advance sick leave is not an entitlement. Each case shall be judged on an individual basis, and granting of advanced sick leave shall be at the discretion of the Associate Vice President, Human Resources or designee.
C. The employee or someone on the employee's behalf must submit to the Associate Vice President, Human Resources or designee a written request for advanced sick leave using the Human Resources Department's Advanced Sick Leave Request Form Package, as far in advance of the first requested day of leave as possible. If there is an emergency situation, the request must be made as soon as possible. The request must include written documentation personally signed by the appropriate practitioner or provider listed in Section 10.5 of this policy. The Associate Vice President, Human Resources or designee will notify the Chief of Police or designee of the employee's request and the Associate Vice President, Human Resources or designee will approve or deny the request. Advanced sick leave will be granted in increments of at least one (1) day. The request must include a signed agreement to repay the advance leave as provided in Section H below.
D. An employee who is on advanced sick leave continues to earn sick leave and annual leave, which are applied to the employee's absences as they are earned. Personal leave and holiday leave are credited while the employee is on advanced sick leave and is applied to the employee's absence as they are credited. If a holiday occurs during a period of advanced sick leave, the day is considered a holiday and not an advanced sick leave day. Worksite closures because of weather or emergency conditions do not reduce advanced sick leave usage.
E. The Associate Vice President, Human Resources or designee will not approve a request for advanced sick leave if the illness, injury, or disability occurred on the job and the employee has been granted accident leave or temporary total disability benefits by the Worker'...
Advanced Sick Leave. All new employees who have exhausted all earned sick leave shall be advanced five (5) days of sick leave each year (July 1 to June 30), to be charged against sick leave he/she subsequently earns.
Advanced Sick Leave. Section 4.10.1. At its discretion, the Employer may advance sick leave to an employee, when required by the exigencies of the situation, for the same reasons it grants sick leave to an employee, subject to the limitations described below. The Employer should not advance sick leave to an employee when it is known (or reasonably expected) that the employee will not return to duty, e.g., when the employee has applied for disability retirement. Before granting advanced sick leave, the Employer shall consider such matters as the expectation of return to duty, mission requirements, and the benefits to the Employer of retaining the employee.
Section 4.10.2. The Employer may advance up to 240 hours (30 days) of sick leave to a full-time employee: — Who is incapacitated for the performance of his or her duties by physical or mental illness, injury, pregnancy, or childbirth; — For a serious health condition of the employee or a family member; — When the employee would, as determined by the health authorities having jurisdiction or by a health care provider, jeopardize the health of others by his or her presence on the job because of exposure to a communicable disease; — For purposes relating to the adoption of a child; or — For the care of a covered service member with a serious injury or illness, provided the employee is exercising his or her entitlement to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave (see below, section 4.11.1.) to care for a covered service member.
Section 4.10.3. The Employer may advance up to 104 hours (13 days) of sick leave to a full-time employee: — When he or she receives medical, dental or optical examination or treatment; — To provide care for a family member who is incapacitated by a medical or mental condition or to attend to a family member receiving medical, dental, or optical examination or treatment; — To provide care for a family member who would, as determined by the health authorities having jurisdiction or by a health care provider, jeopardize the health of others by that family member’s presence in the community because of exposure to a communicable disease; or — To make arrangements necessitated by the death of a family member or to attend the funeral of a family member.

Advanced Sick Leave. Staff members may be granted advanced sick leave not to exceed seventy
Advanced Sick Leave. A. An employee who sustains a temporary, recoverable illness, injury or serious disability, or is eligible for parental leave, may request advance use of sick leave subject to the following two conditions: The employee shall:
1. have exhausted all other types of accrued leave; and
2. have performed at a “meets standards” or better level of performance and have not been placed on a sick leave certification requirement as provided in Section IV or been disciplined for a sick leave related offense during the past twelve (12) months.
B. Advanced sick leave is not an entitlement. The granting of requests for advanced sick leave is at the discretion of the President or designee.
C. Advanced sick leave shall not be granted in instances where the illness or injury or disability occurred on the job, and the employee has been granted accident leave or temporary total disability benefits by the Workers' Compensation Commission.
D. Written requests for advanced sick leave shall be submitted to the President or designee and shall be supported by written verification by an accredited, licensed, or certified medical provider or appropriate documentation of the birth or adoption of a child, if the employee is requesting parental leave, as outlined in Sections IV. E and IV. F of this Article.

1. In the first year of service, advanced sick leave will be prorated based upon the employee’s length of service at the time it is requested.
2. Thereafter, advanced sick leave is advanced at the rate of fifteen (15) working days per year of service to a maximum of sixty (60) working days in any one calendar year.

Upon return to work, the minimum rate of payback for advanced sick leave shall be at one-half the rate that sick leave and annual leave is earned. An employee may elect to pay back advanced sick leave by applying any earned leave or reimbursing the College with cash. Employees shall not be denied advanced sick leave on the basis of using an “excessive” amount of sick leave unless an employee has demonstrated proof of abuse of sick leave in the last year, including but not limited to a pattern of unsubstantiated absences; has been placed on a one day doctor slip requirement; and has then subsequently not been able to justify being out on sick leave.
Advanced Sick Leave. 3.8.1 Employees who are incapacitated for the performance of duties because of serious disability or ailment may request advance sick leave not to exceed 30 days. A maximum of 30 days of sick leave may be advanced to an employee with a medical emergency related to the adoption of a child, for family care or bereavement purposes, or to care for a family member with a serious health condition.
3.8.2 Requests for advanced sick leave will normally be granted following governing regulations when all of the following conditions are met: the employee is eligible to earn sick leave; the employee's request does not exceed 30 days, or for temporary employees only the amount to be earned during the period of temporary employment if appropriate; there is reason to believe the employee will return to work after having used the leave for a period sufficient to repay the advance; and the employee has provided acceptable medical documentation of the need for advanced sick leave.
