Employee Participation in Union Activities. Subject to appropriate advance notice and scheduling/staffing requirements, Union officers, delegates and members of contract committees may use eight (8) hours per calendar year of their continuing education leave/time to attend union-sponsored training in leadership representation and dispute resolution. The Union must provide written notification to the Employer’s Human Resources Division yearly of the names of Union officers, delegates and members of the contract committees in order for those individuals to be eligible to access their continuing education leave/time under this provision. An unpaid leave of absence to attend Union Executive Board meetings, officer meetings, delegate meetings and training sessions, district delegate assemblies, or union conventions may be approved subject to patient care needs/consumer service requirements. Unpaid release time to participate in these activities will accrue benefits. Subject to patient care and staffing needs, an employee may be granted an unpaid leave of absence for up to twelve (12) weeks to assume a position with the Union and the employee shall be entitled to return to the employee’s former position. On a leave of absence exceeding twelve (12) weeks, the employee would be entitled to the first available position for which the employee is qualified in order of seniority relative to other employees with return to work rights. The leave of absence may not exceed twelve (12) months.

Subject to advance notice, operational and patient care needs and supervisor approval an employee may be granted a leave of absence up to thirty (30) days to assume a position with the Union. Contract provisions, other than seniority accruals, will not apply during these leaves of absence.

Such time off requests shall not be unreasonably denied under Employer’s applicable PTO policies, and shall be treated no differently than requests for PTO for any other reason. The Union will identify one bargaining unit member to serve on the UFCW 3000 Health Care Advisory Board, that meets three times per year. The bargaining unit member appointed shall have the option of taking unpaid leave for the dates of the Advisory Board meetings or taking any accrued PTO they may have. The Union shall notify the Employer in writing of the dates no later than two (2) months prior to the meetings.

  • Employee Participation The Employer will assist employees' participation in health promotion and health education programs. Health promotion and health education programs that have been endorsed by the Employer (Minnesota Management & Budget) will be considered to be non-assigned job-related training pursuant to Administrative Procedure 21. Approval for this training is at the discretion of the Appointing Authority and is contingent upon meeting staffing needs in the employee's absence and the availability of funds. Employees are eligible for release time, tuition reimbursement, or a pro rata combination of both. Employees may be reimbursed for up to one hundred (100) percent of tuition or registration costs upon successful completion of the program. Employees may be granted release time, including the travel time, in lieu of reimbursement.
