Graduated Retirement. 44.1. The intent of this Clause is to provide Permanent Employees a defined pathway to retirement, whilst maintaining the employment relationship. 44.2. Where a Permanent Employee seeks to convert their engagement to Graduated Retirement Employee (GRE) they must make an application providing the following: (a) Outline of genuine intention to retire, and indicative timeline for retirement within the next five (5) years. (b) Outline of hours/salary requested expressed as % of 35-hour-week (between 30- 80% of their Permanent full-time hours and salary, i.e. between 10.5-28 hours) (GR%). (c) Outline of plan to manage leave balances prior to proposed transition to GRE as follows: i. Accrued leave (DIL) balance reduced to no more than those days/hours accrued within previous 12 months. ii. Annual leave balance reduced to no more than 175 hours. 44.3. The GRE and the Company will define jointly the range of duties will apply from the local site(s) task list together with corresponding rostering arrangements to the GRE’s expectations and the operational needs of the Company. 44.4. The Company will issue the GRE with a letter of appointment incorporating a start date, the individual GRE’s scope of duties and agreed rostering arrangements. 44.5. The Company will respond to an application lodged under Clause 44.2 above to approve the request, or propose alternative arrangements, or request further information in relation to one of the points outlined under Clause 44.2 within 21 days from receipt of the application. 44.6. The following arrangements apply where a Permanent Employee applies to be engaged as a GRE and is accepted by the Company for employment as such: (a) Annual leave and long service leave hours accrued prior to GRE transition will be preserved and 35AAH will be provided per week when taken. Personal leave hours accrued prior to GRE transition will be preserved and 8AAH will be provided per day when taken. (b) GREs will accrue annual leave, long service leave and personal leave entitlements in accordance with their relevant GR%. Eg. A GRE-50% will accrue 5 weeks annual leave and 1.3 weeks long service leave each year. 17.5AAH will be provided and will be paid at 50% of the weekly Permanent salary when taken. Personal leave will accrue at 6.5 days per year based on the 50% part time arrangement for the GRE. Graduated Retirement. The University or an APT member who holds a permanent appointment may request a graduated retirement arrangement. A graduated retirement arrangement would include a reduction in duties to fifty per cent (50%) of full-time duties. The maximum duration of this arrangement will be two (2) years, on the understanding that the APT member would retire at the conclusion of the agreed upon term. The University and the APT member can mutually agree upon other arrangements that meet the needs of the University and the APT member.

Graduated Retirement a) The Employer, or an Employee who holds a permanent appointment may request a graduated retirement arrangement. b) A graduated retirement arrangement would include a reduction in duties to fifty per cent (50%) of full-time duties. The maximum duration of this arrangement will be two (2) years, on the understanding that the Employee would retire at the conclusion of the agreed upon term. The Employer and the Employee may mutually agree upon other arrangements that meet the needs of the two parties. c) An Employee whose application for a graduated retirement has been approved shall have a “base salary rate” computed as if the Employee were continuing on a full-time basis. All relevant salary adjustments shall be applied to the base salary rate. The “actual salary” to be paid to the Employee shall be pro-rated from the base salary rate. Pension and benefit contributions shall be based on the actual salary rate. d) Employees on a graduated retirement plan shall be eligible for the retirement bonus in Article 17.2 at their base salary rate.
