Leave for Association Business. The Hospital agrees to grant leaves of absence, without pay, to nurses selected by the Association to attend Association business including conferences, conventions and Provincial Committee meetings and to any nurse elected to the position of Local Co-ordinator. The cumulative total leave of absence, the amount of notice, the number of nurses that may be absent at any time from one area and the number of days (including those of the Local Co-ordinator) is set out in the Appendix of Local Provisions. During such leave of absence, a nurse's salary and applicable benefits or percentage in lieu of fringe benefits shall be maintained by the Hospital and the local Association agrees to reimburse the Hospital in the amount of the daily rate of the full-time nurse or in the amount of the full cost of such salary and percentage in lieu of fringe benefits of a part-time nurse except for Provincial Committee meetings which will be reimbursed by the Association. The Hospital will bill the local Association within a reasonable period of time. Part-time nurses will receive service and seniority credit for all leaves granted under this Article.

Leave for Association Business. The maximum number of Central Negotiating Team members entitled to payment under this provision shall be ten (10), and in no case will more than one (1) full-time nurse and one (1) part-time nurse from a hospital be entitled to such payment. The Association shall advise the Hospitals’ Central Negotiating Committee as far in advance as possible, of the names of the nurses to be paid under this provision. The Hospitals’ Central Negotiating Committee will make such request known to the affected hospitals. For any unpaid leave of absence under this provision, a full-time nurse's salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Hospital, and the Association agrees to reimburse the Hospital in the amount of the full cost of such salary. Notwithstanding Article there shall be no loss of service or seniority during such leave of absence. such leave of be maintained by the Hospital and the Association agrees to reimburse the Hospital in the amount of the full cost of such salary and applicable benefits. It is understood, however, that during such leave the nurse shall be deemed to be an employee of the Ontario Nurses' Association. The nurse agrees to notify the Hospital of her intention to return to work at least two (2) weeks prior to the date of such return.

The total amount of leave of absence under this article in any calendar year may not exceed 50 days for the Local Coordinator and 25 days for the Bargaining Unit functions, and the number of nurses that may be absent at any one time (1) shall not exceed two (2). The Association must provide the Home with at least one month notice prior to the date the nurse is to be absent and provided that replacement staff is available to accommodate such leave. During such leave of absence, the nurse's salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Home and the Local Association agrees to reimburse the Home in the amount of the daily rate of the nurse except for Provincial Committee meetings which will be reimbursed by the Association. (b) There shall be no more than two (2) nurses granted Association leave at any given time, unless it is possible to do so. (c) Requests for Association leaves of absence shall be made in writing in the request book to the Nurse Manager or her or his designate, prior to the posting of the applicable time schedule, if possible.

The Health Centre will xxxx the local Association within a reasonable period of time. (b) Part-time nurses will receive service and seniority credit for all leaves granted under this Article. (c) Leaves of absence granted in accordance with a) above shall be pursuant to the following provisions: i) Adequate notice of at least two (2) weeks is given to the Health Centre. ii) Not more than five (5) employees shall be allowed such leave, understanding that no more than two (2) employees from one (1) unit will be allowed such leave. iii) The total number of days in any one (1) calendar year for such leave for all employees shall not exceed fifty (50) days. Should a nurse become the Local Co-ordinator as referred to in 11.02 (a) an additional fifty (50) days without pay will be granted to this individual to fulfil the duties of the position. iv) Such leave will not be unreasonably denied.
