Leaves of Absence for Personal Reasons. After three (3) or more consecutive years of contractual service in the Youngstown City School District, an employee may request a leave of absence without pay for personal reasons not otherwise provided for herein, stating in detail in the request the reasons therefore. If it is the judgment of the Superintendent of Schools that the reasons are legitimate and adequate and in the overall best interest of the school system, and if satisfactory substitute is available if needed, he may recommend to the Board the approval of the request. No such leave of absence shall extend beyond one-fourth (1/4) of the employee’s normal annual term of service, nor shall the employee be gainfully employed during the period of such leave.

Leaves of Absence for Personal Reasons. Permanent unit members covered by this Agreement may request personal leave at no cost to the District. Such leaves may be granted at the sole and exclusive discretion of the District and may be granted for a period up to one (1) year. Unit members on Leaves of Absence for Personal Reasons shall have the right to participate in the District Health and Welfare benefit programs, not expressly prohibited by law and consistent with insurance carrier requirements, at no expense to the District. An employee shall return, if possible, to the position held prior to the leave of absence or to a similar position if available, in the same classification for which the employee is qualified.

  • Sick Leave/Personal Leave 1. Each member of the bargaining unit who is regular full-time, in an active pay status, is eligible for ten (10) days of sick leave and three (3) days of personal leave annually. No member of the bargaining unit shall lose the accumulated allowance of unused days of sick leave/personal leave by reason of having been absent for a period without pay, nor shall the employee accumulate any additional days of allowance during the absence. Faculty members needing to use sick/personal days shall fill out the requisite forms according to official College procedures.
