Mechanical Department. 5.01 The standard work day shall consist of eight (8) hours, Monday to Friday 7:15 a.m. - 3:45 p.m or 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The standard work week shall consist of forty (40) hours Monday to Friday. Saturdays and Sundays shall be the regular days off and any work performed on these days shall be paid at the prevailing overtime rates as provided in this Agreement.
(a) The standard work week shall consist of forty (40) hours on day shift, Tuesday to Saturday inclusive. Sundays and Mondays shall be regular days off and any work performed on these days shall be paid at the prevailing overtime rates as provided in this Agreement.
(b) The Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday shift shall consist of ten (10) hours, 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesdays and Sundays shall be the regular days off and any work performed on these days shall be paid at the prevailing overtime rates as provided in this Agreement.
(c) The night shift Tuesday to Saturday shall consist of eight (8) hours, 3:30 p.m. – 12:00 p.m. Sundays and Mondays shall be the regular days off and any work performed on these days shall be paid at the prevailing overtime rates as provided in this Agreement. The night shift premium of $1.00 per hour does not attract overtime.
(d) Any changes to the starting times of these shifts shall be by mutual consent between the Employer and the Union.
5.03 Each shift shall have a minimum of one-half (½) hour lunch period at mid-shift.
5.04 An employee shall be granted two (2) fifteen (15) minute breaks during the course of each shift - one in each half of the shift. An employee shall be granted a fifteen (15) minute break after each two (2) hours of overtime he works in any day.
5.05 The Company shall endeavour to give the employee forty-eight (48) hours' notice prior to changing shifts.
5.06 It is intended that every employee should have eight (8) hours' rest between shifts. In the event that an employee is recalled to work before such eight (8) full hours elapse, he shall be paid the appropriate overtime rates for work performed after recall. No employee shall be permitted to resume work on his own accord until eight (8) full hours have elapsed.
Mechanical Department. Employees working in the Mechanical Department will rotate weekly between the Night Shift, Afternoon Shift, and the Day Shift.
Mechanical Department. Standby Call-out: Mechanical Department Employees who are called out will receive a minimum of two (2) hours pay at overtime rates as per Article 12, Section 12.05.

Mechanical Department. All seniority accrued in service of RIPTA shall be counted for bidding purposes.
Mechanical Department. (a) The roster shall be as detailed in Schedule C unless it has been subsequently altered or replaced using Clause 11 – Introduction of Change.
(b) It is agreed that while this roster is in operation, employees will work a 36-hour week (4x9) with no Accrued Day Off (ADO). It is further agreed that if the parties revert to a five day roster, the hours of work and ADO arrangements that existed prior to this Agreement shall apply.
(c) Where rostered day shifts of ordinary time are worked on a Sunday and Saturday in the same pay week, the weekend payment shall be normal time, plus 25% weekend penalties, plus payment of $308.00 in lieu of any other loading for that week. The $308.00 payment shall increase to $321.00 on 1 April 2007 and $334.00 on 1 April 2008. The $308.00 payment will not be paid if both days are not worked due to sick leave that is not supported by a medical certificate. In the event that only one day is worked due to sick leave that is not supported by a medical certificate then one half of the $308.00 payment will be made. The normal practice of not accepting backdated medical certificates shall apply. For the purposes of this sub clause “pay week” shall mean Sunday to Saturday.
(d) The parties agree that employees shall make themselves available to perform all types of work on all shifts within their range of skill and competency. For the avoidance of doubt this includes:
i. All work prescribed within the Award and Agreements reached; and
ii. Preventative maintenance on shift.
