Posting of Vacancies/Promotions. Job vacancies within the bargaining unit will be posted for a period of five (5) working days prior to being filled provided the City has at least two (2) weeks notice of vacancy occurring, otherwise, three (3) working days, setting forth the minimum requirements for the position. Employees who may be interested in applying for a posted vacancy/promotion shall apply for such job(s) to the Human Resources Department via the use of the online Human Resources Information System within the posting period. Bargaining unit employees shall be given preference over other City employees and external candidates. The City agrees that when a job vacancy occurs and has been posted within the prescribed time limitations, the City will select the qualified bargaining unit applicant and reclassify the selectee within thirty (30) days unless extenuating circumstances exist and both parties agree to extend the limitations. If no qualified bargaining unit candidate is available from within the unit, the City may select another City employee or hire from outside in which the time limits will be extended.

Posting of Vacancies/Promotions. In the event of a permanent promotional vacancy, a notice shall be posted on the bulletin board in the Fire Department for five (5) days. The notice shall set forth the basic work requirements of the job, minimum qualifications and the rate of pay. All promotions in this unit, except for the position of Lieutenant, will be filled on the basis of seniority. The Lieutenants position will be filled using a testing procedure as outlined below. All positions will be subject to a 6 month probationary period. During this probationary period, the employee may revert back to their former job classification.   • Posting of Vacancies At the point the Department proceeds to fill a vacant position by open competition, lateral transfer or promotion, such information will be publicized within the Department for a minimum of five (5) working days.
