Purpose of Leave. Unpaid leave may be granted for any of the following reasons:
Purpose of Leave. It is understood by the parties that leaves of absence are to be used for the purpose intended, and employees shall make their intent known when applying for such leaves. There shall be no duplicating or pyramiding of benefits or types of absence. Employees shall not accept employment while on leaves of absence unless agreed to by the Employer. Acceptance of employment or working for another employer without prior approval while on leave of absence may result in discipline, up to and including discharge. All leaves of absence shall be without pay unless specifically provided to the contrary by the provisions of the Leave Section involved.

Purpose of Leave. Eligible Unit Members may request an unpaid leave of absence for purposes including, but not limited to, child rearing, health, study, travel, legislative service or alternative employment.
Purpose of Leave. The purpose of the retraining leave is to provide tenured faculty the opportunity to prepare for a change in discipline. The need for such retraining will be determined by the District and may involve formal coursework, research, work experience, or other related activity approved by the District.

Sabbatical Leaves are granted to qualified Residential Faculty members for intellectual stimulation normally attained by study, research, travel, suitable work experience, or other creative activity. The purpose of the sabbatical leave is to upgrade the educational program of the Colleges by improving Residential Faculty competency.
Purpose of Leave. Because of his/her employment" shall be defined for the purpose of this Section to refer to lawsuits or arbitrations involving the District and incidents involving employees and/or students which said member may have occasion to observe and/or have knowledge of because of his/her employment.

Professional Unpaid Leaves not to exceed two (2) consecutive semesters may be granted to Appointive members of the Faculty for intellectual stimulation normally attained by study, research, travel, suitable work experience, or other creative activity. The purpose of the Professional Unpaid Leave is to upgrade the educational program of the College by improving Faculty competency.
Purpose of Leave. Catastrophic Leave may be taken to attend to the employee’s own serious health condition or the serious health condition of a member of the employee’s family, provided that the condition is anticipated to last for greater than thirty (30) days, with the exception of 12.10(b) above.
