Qualifications of Stewards. All Stewards must be Employees of the Employer who have acquired seniority and each Xxxxxxx must be employed on the shift they represent and can only act on grievances pertaining to the Employees of that shift.

The Union acknowledges that stewards and members of committees have regular duties to perform on behalf of the Employer, and that such persons will not leave their regular duties, without obtaining permission of their department head, and will give any reasonable explanation which be requested with respect to their absence. In accordance with this understanding, stewards will be compensated for time spent in the handling of grievance in accordance with the grievance procedure hereinafter set out, at their regular rate of pay. This provision shall not apply to time spent outside the employee’s regular hours. Payment for Shop Stewards attending educational seminars will not exceed three (3) hours per (non-cumulative) and it is understood that time spent outside of the stewards normal working hours is non-compensated. Notwithstanding the above, the Union will be required to notify the Employer one (1) week in advance and that will not prevent the Employer to maintain an adequate and qualified work force. Payment of Educational Seminars will not exceed three (3) hours per month (non-cumulative). Notwithstanding the above, the Union will be required to notify the Employer fourteen (14) weeks in advance and that it will not prevent the Employer from maintaining an adequate and qualified work force.
