Scheduling Vacation Time Off. Vacation time shall be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employees and the Chief, or his/her designee, based on the efficient operating needs of the City and availability of relief. The bargaining unit shall be allowed one member of the assigned shift force to be off on vacation or holiday per shift, subject to relief availability, except during periods of employee illness or injury over three (3) working days. Vacation time shall be administered as follows: a. Employees should turn in a written vacation request at least two weeks prior to desired time off. Less than two weeks’ notice will not be cause for vacation denial, however granted time off will be strictly at the discretion of the Fire Chief. b. In December each employee will have the opportunity to sign-up for (3) three shifts of planned vacation based on seniority at the start of the vacation calendar. This is to allow members some long term vacation planning. c. Once each employee has had the opportunity to sign-up for the three (3) shifts of planned vacation based on their seniority, members will be allowed to request additional vacation on a first come basis at any time during the vacation calendar year. d. Request for vacation shall be approved or denied as per this Article in writing within one week of receipt of request. If request is denied, an employee may elect to keep the request open pending relief personnel availability or may seek to trade the shift. e. Bargaining unit members will be used to fill open positions. f. Vacation time may be cancelled in cases of city-wide emergencies by the City Manager. g. Cancellation of vacation time by the employee requires at least seven (7) days’ notice unless otherwise approved by management. This article shall not preclude the City from allowing additional employees off on vacation. Bargaining unit members will be afforded the opportunity to schedule-off at least the amount of their yearly vacation accrual each calendar year.

Scheduling Vacation Time Off. The Employer may schedule one week of vacation time off by closing down the operation. The Employer may stagger vacation time on a shift or individual basis or by some combination of the above. If an Employee qualifies for a second, third, or fourth week of vacation, the Employee may take time at the convenience of the Employer or may be paid for the second, third, or fourth week in lieu of time off. Employees shall present their requests for vacation time off to their immediate supervisor as soon as possible, but at least thirty (30) days in advance. The Company in its discretion may reduce the required advance time for vacation requests in cases of emergency.

The object of offering flexible working hours is that in return employees will take very seriously their obligation to turn up when they are expected. In view of the disruption caused by unplanned and or notified absenteeism, repeated failure to observe the protocol for time off would constitute misconduct.

  • Vacation Scheduling (a) Employees shall indicate their vacation preference by February 1st of each year, and the Employer shall post the final vacation schedule by April 1st of each year. Choice of vacation period shall be based on seniority but shall be determined by the Director of Resident Care or designate having due regard to the proper operation of the Home. Vacation requests made after the posting of the vacation schedule shall be determined by the Director of Care or designate having due regard to the proper operation of the Home on a first come first serve basis, not on seniority. (b) Vacations may be taken at any time of year, and the Employer will grant request where possible, provided that vacation quotas shall not be unduly restrictive, and vacation shall not be unreasonably withheld. The Employer will give consideration to an employee’s request for vacation between the period of December 15 and January 15, provided the employee will be fulfilling her or his commitment to work either Christmas or New Year’s. (c) Employees may request pursuant to Article 13.08 to have the weekend off prior to or following their vacation. The Employer will endeavour to schedule such request subject to the following: i) Where the weekend off is granted and the employee was otherwise scheduled to work on those days, such extra days will be deemed to be vacation days; ii) The employee must have such vacation entitlement available; and, iii) The weekend off being requested must be contiguous with (i.e. consecutive with) the employee’s original vacation. (d) Prior to leaving on vacation, an employee shall be notified of the date on which to report back for work following vacation if the posted work schedule does not cover the employees’ vacation period, if the information is known to the employer. (e) Full-time employees will be granted time off in single days or multiples thereof upon request, provided the employer agrees to that request. The maximum allotment of these days will be five (5) days.

  • Vacation Time After the Trial Period is complete, the Employee is entitled to days off per year of which is required to be mutually benefiting of the Employer and the Employee. It is required for the Employee to give notice before scheduling their vacation in accordance with Company policy.

  • Vacation Buy Back Employees shall have the option of requesting pay in lieu of time off up to a maximum of 144 hours of vacation time each year, during each year of the contract in increments of eight (8) hrs. Such requests are subject to the approval of the department head and the availability of funds.
