Scheduling Vacations. Vacations are to be scheduled in advance and taken at such reasonable times as approved by the employee's department with particular regard to the needs of the Employer, seniority of employee, and, insofar as practicable, with regard to the wishes of the employee. No vacation shall be assigned by the Employer or deducted from the employee's account as disciplinary action.

Scheduling Vacations. (a) Vacations are not cumulative. Except as provided in Paragraphs 2 (e), 2 (g), and 2 (h), the vacation to which an employee is eligible in each calendar year shall be taken before midnight December 31 of that year. (b) Vacations will be scheduled in accordance with the employee’s wishes to the extent consistent with the needs of the business, giving due consideration to TERM OF EMPLOYMENT. (c) An employee may elect to schedule all or part of his or her vacation to which eligible on a day-to- day basis subject to the provisions of Paragraph 2(b). (d) When an employee’s scheduled vacation week or fractional week includes a holiday recognized in accordance with ARTICLE 13, HOLIDAYS, and observed in accordance therewith on any day Monday through Friday in such week (or, for 7-DAY COVERAGE EMPLOYEES on any day other than such employee’s DAY IN LIEU OF SATURDAY or DAY IN LIEU OF SUNDAY), an extra day off will be granted in lieu thereof. (e) When an employee is disabled due to illness or injury at the time vacation is scheduled to begin, the vacation shall be postponed, and rescheduled. When an employee becomes disabled due to illness or injury while on a scheduled vacation, the vacation will be terminated as of the end of the day immediately preceding the first (1st) day of such disability and the remaining portion of the terminated vacation shall be rescheduled. Rescheduling as provided in this paragraph shall be subject to the employee's having furnished within a reasonable time a physician's certificate acceptable to the COMPANY showing evidence of such disability. (f) When an employee is paid bereavement leave during his/her scheduled vacation, the bereavement leave shall not be counted as vacation days. (g) At the option of the employee and subject to the needs of the business up to five (5) vacation days to which an employee is eligible may be carried over into the following year, provided that the carryover vacation is scheduled and taken before June 30. An employee’s request to carry over vacation shall not be unreasonably denied. (h) An employee who cannot take a vacation because of Management convenience may reschedule such vacation in excess of that provided in Paragraph 5 (g) above into the following year, provided that any vacation so rescheduled shall be completed prior to June 30.
Scheduling Vacations. The times during a calendar year at which an employee may take his/her vacation shall be determined by the department head with due regard for the wishes of the employee and particular regard for the needs of the service. An employee shall be required to take at least one (1) calendar week of earned vacation leave at one time, unless otherwise authorized by his/her department head.

When a family emergency arises which necessitates the use of vacation time, an employee shall provide as much advance notice as possible considering the particular circumstances.

The Employer, however, shall not use this language unfairly or unreasonably to deny an employee’s request for vacation. Supervisors shall approve or deny requests as soon as practicable, but in no case longer than five (5) working days from receipt of the request when the request is made within thirty (30) working days from the beginning of the requested time off. Supervisors shall approve or deny requests that are made longer than thirty (30) working days in advance no longer than fifteen (15) calendar days from receipt of the request. If two (2) or more employees request the same period of time and the matter cannot be resolved by agreement of the parties concerned, the employee having the greatest seniority with the county shall be granted the vacation time; provided, however, that an employee shall not be given this seniority consideration more than once every two (2) years. Such schedules may be amended by the appointing authorities to meet work emergencies or to grant requests of individual employees. Employees may request multiple weeks of vacation in tandem during choice periods for vacations (June through September), but management, in its discretion, may limit the number of employees taking back-to-back weeks of vacation during the choice periods.

Scheduling Vacations. On or after December 1st of each year employees will be called upon to indicate preference for vacation time for the following year in the department in which they are established or to which they have moved having been accepted on a job posting. Employees who do not indicate preference in vacation time when called upon to do so shall be scheduled by the Company after all other employees have indicated their preference. The operational requirements shall govern vacation schedules, but preference shall be given to employees in accordance with bargaining unit seniority where vacation periods requested conflict. The vacation schedules for the department shall be posted on or before February 1st of each year, but shall be subject to changes made necessary by operational problems or personal requests.
Scheduling Vacations. Employees shall be permitted to choose either split or entire vacation periods. Whenever practicable and consistent with the needs of the County and the availability of vacation relief, employees shall have the right to select vacation times. Seniority shall prevail in the event of conflict between employees over choice of vacation days, but each employee shall be permitted to exercise their right of seniority only every other year. The County shall notify employees within two (2) weeks of such request, provided employees request time off at least four (4) weeks prior to the beginning of the desired time off, as to whether or not such requests will be granted and, in the event such requests are not granted, the reasons for failure to grant them.

Step One: By March 15 of each school year, administrators shall issue an annual vacation calendar for the next school year. The calendar will include the following: (1) A list of all dates when vacation cannot be taken due to operation needs (2) A list of all dates when vacation may be taken by all employees (3) A list of all dates when a part of the staff may take vacation, indicating any limits on the number of employees who may take vacation or on the amount of vacation that may be taken.
