Seniority of Union Officers. Each member of the Grievance Committee and each employee who at the time shall be the President or Vice President of the Union shall, for their respective terms of office, have top seniority rights within his seniority unit for the purposes of layoffs in connection with decreasing the work force within such unit; provided, however, that such person shall not be retained in the employ of the Company unless work which such person can perform is available in such unit. Retention at work in accordance with this Section shall not enable such employee to claim relative seniority status in excess of that which he otherwise would have had prior to such retention. The local President and Chairman of the Grievance Committee shall have top seniority rights within the Plant to work which they can perform.
