Special Education Assistants. Seniority is based on the initial date of continuous employment with the District as a Special Education Assistant and the seniority ranking within the citywide special education program site, or other non-citywide program school site at which they work. Special Education Assistants use their District seniority based on the initial date of continuous employment as a Special Education Assistant for purposes of excessing, layoff, and recall (per Article 17, Transfer And Reassignment and, Article 19, Reduction In Force).

Special Education Assistants. Education Assistants shall include assistants in Special Education in the following subcategories:
Special Education Assistants. A bus that transports special education students who have extraordinary needs, as determined by the District, will be assigned a properly trained and physically capable assistant.

Special Education Assistants. Special education assistants shall mean all employees employed by the School District and assigned responsibilities of special education assistant, but excluding the following: superintendent, business manager, directors, and coordinators, who devote more than fifty percent (50%) of their time to administrative or supervisory duties, confidential employees, supervisory employees, nurses, essential employees, part-time employees whose services do not exceed the lesser of fourteen (14) hours per week or thirty-five percent (35%) of the normal work week in the employee's bargaining unit, employees who hold positions of a temporary or seasonal character for a period not in excess of 67 working days in any calendar year, and emergency employees.

3.1.2 Scale increments - special education assistants shall, upon the completion of 12 months service at Step 1, advance to the next step on the salary scale. This is provided that the employer attests that the employee has met or exceeded standards of performance as assessed by the employer against the job description and/or written requirements of the position. Where a job description and/or written requirements do not exist the employee will be consulted in determining the job description.
Special Education Assistants. Teaching Assistants who are assigned to assist special education students with such duties as feeding, diapering, and restraining shall receive an annual stipend of $300 per year.

Special Education Assistants. Special Education Assistants are part-time hourly employees who work under the direction of an assigned Special Education Teacher. Special Education Assistants deliver education activities described in the “Service and Placement” section of each student’s IEP. To the maximum extent possible, Special Education Assistants work with special education students in the regular education environment participating in Place-Based Education activities. All Special Education Assistants will have a minimum of an Associate’s degree from a college or university, earn a passing score on the Para-Pro Praxis test, and complete an appropriate background check.
