Term Leaves a) The Board may grant a leave of absence to a member of the Bargaining Unit who has been elected or appointed to serve as Local Bargaining Unit President and/or Local Bargaining Unit Vice President, and/or officer. Each leave shall be for a period of up to three (3) years and may be extended by mutual agreement. The Local Bargaining Unit President may be granted a full time leave of absence. The Local Bargaining Unit Vice President may be granted a full- time leave of absence. Requests for such leave shall be submitted in writing to the appropriate Superintendent through the Principal. The Local Bargaining Unit President and the Local Bargaining Unit Vice President shall be entitled to accumulate but not access sick leave for the duration of the leave. In the event of a leave which is less than full time, the allocation of sick leave will be prorated. The member shall retain their relative position on the seniority list.

Term Leaves a. the Board grants a teacher leave. it shall endeavour to place the teacher on return to the district in a position comparable to the one left. possible. the teacher shall return to the position held before going on leave. This placement may be effected by the utilization of temporary appointments. If all parties concerned are in agreement as to the placement of the teacher on leave when returns. a person with a continuing appointment may be used to fill the position. The letter sent to the teacher offering a temporary appointment should state the name of the teacher being replaced. (west Vancouver) A teacher on leave shall notify the Board. by March of the year following the granting of the leave of absence, of intention to return to the District.

Term Leaves. A leave of absence without pay for a period of more than two (2) weeks up to a maximum of one (1) year may be granted to an Employee by the Central Co- ordinating Contracted Services and Partnership Development. The Employee must apply in writing to the Central Co-ordinating Contracted Services and Partnership Development four (4) weeks in advance of the leave of absence without pay, giving reasons and details regarding the purpose of the proposed leave. Such leave will be considered for one of the following reasons: For the purposes of attending an educational institution for professional related upgrading courses. Proof of enrolment must accompany the leave request. Under special compassionate reasons approved by the Central Co-ordinating Contracted Services and Partnership Development.
Term Leaves. A teacher who has been employed with the Board for a minimum of seven consecutive years may be granted a leave for professional improvement.

Requests for such leave shall be submitted in writing on the appropriate leave to the appropriate Superintendent through the Principal. The member on leave shall not accumulate sick leave for the period of the leave. The member shall retain their relative position on the seniority list.

Term Leaves. GENERAL Short term leaves for members under and will be limited to a maximum of ten (IO) days per member per school year. The Board reserves the right to limit the number of leaves at any one time or at any one individual school, and shall exercise this right in a fair and reasonable manner I The Bargaining Unit and/or member shall submit a request for all leaves under Article to in writing at least one (1) week prior to requested date of leave on the appropriate forms and such application shall be processed through the Principal to the Manger of Human Resources or designate. A fixed term leave may be granted by the Board to a teacher who wishes to teach for only one (1) semester in a school year, or to a teacher who wishes to teach on a pari-time timetable for a full academic year, or some combination of these, or to a teacher who wishes to take a leave of absence for one (1) full academic year. Application in writing for a fixed term leave shall be made to the Superintendentof Human Resources by March for a leave commencing the following September, and by November for a leave commencing the following February. A fixed term leave may only be approved for up to and or including one (1) full academic year. For a fixed term leave of absence of less than one year: salary to be paid will be based on the current grid pro-rated according to the fiaction of the academic year taught. on leave, employee benefits coverage shall be paid by the teacher in accordance with Article It is understood that the teacher shall make written application for benefits to the Bargaining Unit, with a copy to the Administrative Officer-Teacher Benefits, at the time of application for leave. the period of leave, the accumulative sick leave credits shall be proportional to the of the academic year taught; seniority shall continue to accumulate for the period of the leave. the teacher’s return from leave, the Board shall place that teacher in a similar position in the same school, subject to Articles and of this Agreement. salary increments shall be proportional to the fraction of the academic year taught
