Unassisted leaves. In cases which do not qualify for assisted leave, employees, upon approval of the President, may be granted leave without assistance for any purpose up to a maximum period of twelve (12) months. Upon completion of leave without assistance, employees are assured of resuming duties in a position and salary level placement equivalent to that held prior to going on leave. For employees on leave without pay, all benefit payments, including the College's share, shall be the responsibility of the employee. If employees proceeding on leave without pay make prior payment to the College of both the employee's share and the College's share of any or all benefits, the College shall remit these payments to ensure continuous coverage. Participation in the pension plan during leave may continue in accordance with the provisions of the College (Pension) Act.

Unassisted leaves. A Continuing or Adjunct Employee may be granted leave of absence without pay for up to two years to take educational training or for personal reasons as may be agreed to in writing by the Continuing and Adjunct Employees and the Board, subject to the terms of this Section. On return from an approved leave of absence without pay, a Continuing or Adjunct Employee will be placed in a comparable Position to that held prior to the leave and at a salary based on the grid placement attained at the time the leave of absence commenced. This provision shall not impede the Board’s ability to give notice under Section “Termination, Redundancy and Discipline of Academic Staff Members”. Collective Agreement Page During the period of approved leave of absence without pay, a Continuing or Adjunct Employee may continue participation in the Alberta Health Care Plan through the College, providing the member pays of premium costs, and has prepaid the appropriate funds to the College in advance. During the period of approved leave of absence without pay, a Continuing or Adjunct Employee may, subject to the approval of the continue participation in the College Group Life Plan, Extended Health Care Plan and Dental Plan, providing the member pays of premium costs and has prepaid the appropriate funds to the College in advance. The Employee must elect to continue participation in all of these plans, or none of them. If at any time the Continuing or Adjunct Employee has not placed sufficient funds with the College to cover current premium costs, the plans will be terminated and reinstatement will not be possible until the Employee has returned to work. No other benefits will be available to a Continuing or Adjunct Employee during an approved leave of absence without pay. An Employee on unassisted leave may resign his Position with the College by providing a minimum of ninety (90) calendar days notice in writing prior to the end of the unassisted leave. PARENTAL LEAVE Subject to all the conditions of this Agreement, an Academic Staff Member shall be granted parental leave for a maximum of one year under the following conditions.
