Unpaid Leave Duration. Unpaid leaves will normally be granted for one or two years. All leaves shall be applied for and granted in writing through the Human Resources Department. In times of economic hardship, the district and the Association may agree to extend leaves.

Except as otherwise provided by state and/or federal law, up to one (1) year of unpaid leave of absence may be granted at the sole discretion of Human Resources and pursuant to the conditions outlined below. It is expressly agreed the District’s decision to approve or deny an employee’s request for an unpaid leave of absence or to approve or deny an employee’s request to modify the duration of an approved unpaid leave of absence pursuant to this article is not subject to the grievance procedure.
