Video Display Terminals - VDTs a) An employee who works on a VDT and who submits a medical certificate to the effect that continued VDT operation may result in health damage, will be considered for transfer under Article 21, Section 15 (Transfers). A pregnant employee shall have the option to refuse or to continue to operate a VDT. If there is not sufficient work available to permit a reassignment, the employee will be considered to be on maternity leave. b) The Board agrees to take reasonable measures to minimize glare on VDT/CRT screens caused by direct or indirect lighting and to ensure that terminals are equipped with brightness controls. The Board agrees that VDTs will be serviced in accordance with manufacturer's specifications by qualified technicians. c) Employees working on VDTs may request an examination during working hours to establish the condition of the eyes. Employees may have further tests conducted not more than every 12 months. The Board will pay for such examinations if the cost is not covered elsewhere upon referral from their Doctor that the work is potentially harmful to their vision. SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 38 (RICHMOND) AND CUPE LOCAL 716 Collective Agreement 2022-2025 d) Where an employee is required to operate a VDT, the employee will not monitor a screen continuously for longer than two (2) hours without either a fifteen (15) minute rest period or reassignment to other work for a period of fifteen (15) minutes or more. e) An employee who provides a relevant medical certificate from a medical practitioner will not be required to monitor a full display VDT during the last half-hour of a shift. f) Problems or concerns of employees who operate VDTs shall be referred to their immediate supervisor's attention. If a solution cannot be effected, the matter shall be referred to the Health and Safety Committee.

Video Display Terminals - VDTs. When a majority of an Employee's daily work time requires maintaining VDTs such Employee shall have his eyes examined prior to the initial assignment to the VDT equipment, and annually thereafter if requested by either party. The examination shall be at the Employer's expense where costs are not covered by insurance.
Video Display Terminals - VDTs. 48.01 A pregnant employee who is operating a video display terminal (VDT) may request a temporary job reassignment for the period of pregnancy. If other work at the same or lower level is available, the employee will be transferred to such work at the same level of pay and benefits. If a reassignment is not available, the employee will be entitled to a leave of absence without pay until she requests maternity leave. 48.02 Employees working with VDT equipment shall have a ten (10) minute break from the VDT equipment in every uninterrupted hour worked in front of a screen.

Video Display Terminals - VDTs. 34.01 Upon the introduction of any VDT’s the Local Housing Authority shall notify the Union of the nature of the equipment, the location of the equipment, and those employees who are likely to be using it. 34.02 Employees who operate a VDT for one continuous, hour shall be relieved of such duties for a period of ten (10) minutes. 34.03 At the beginning of assignment to a VDT, an employee who is regularly required to operate a VDT for two (2) hours or more per day shall be required to undergo an eye examination; the employee may elect to undergo an eye examination annually thereafter. The examiner shall be an optometrist who is qualified to conduct the following tests: (i) unaided visual acuity (letter chart test) (ii) refractive findings (iii) corrected visual acuity (iv) amplitude accommodation (v) suppression (vi) muscle balance (near, one metre, distant) (vii) slit lamp biomicroscopy The cost of such examination, not to exceed the OHIP fee schedule for such examinations, shall be borne by the Local Housing Authority, and the VDT operator shall authorize release of a copy of the examination report to the Local Housing Authority.

Video Display Terminals - VDTs. Continuous operation of VDTs over extended periods of time may cause physical problems. Therefore, VDT operators will be provided periodic breaks away from the terminal during their workday. For example, operators may be provided a diversion in work of at least 10 minutes per hour away from the terminal. Ergonomic furniture and preventive devices will be provided when identified in an approved Job Hazard Safety Analysis. Employees may request a temporary assignment that does not require extended use of the VDT.

Homes First Society agrees to provide alternative work should such work be available. If no suitable work is available, the employee shall be subject to a temporary leave of absence without pay and without benefits. Seniority shall accumulate throughout the leave. Benefits may be maintained through payment by the employee.

For operators who will be required to work on the VDT continuously without interruptions (75% of their workday), a 15-minute break every two hours will be provided except where the nature of the work makes such a break impractical. In such cases, the manager or supervisor will determine when the break will be given. This does not indicate a break from all work, but simply a change of activity allowing the eyes to focus on different subjects so they may “rest.” 2. The Company will have a written policy available concerning the use of VDTs. 3. The Company shall comply with government regulations regarding radiation emissions by VDTs. The company shall comply with an Employee’s request that VDTs in his or her area be tested for such emissions. 4. The Company shall provide a filter cover for each VDT for which a filter cover is necessary to eliminate glare.
