Written Exam. The Chief will establish a list of source material for each position being tested for, not to exceed five source materials. The material to be used on the promotional test shall be listed in the announcement.

The Village will post a reading list of the study materials for the written examination, which shall include study/reference material for all areas contained in the written exam, at least 90 calendar days in advance of the date of the written examination, in each fire station. The Village will place reference books for the upcoming written exam at each fire station, at least 90 calendar days before the written test is administered. The name of any applicant for promotion who does not attain a minimum passing score of 70% on the written exam shall not be entered on the final promotion list. Any applicant who does not pass the written exam shall also be ineligible to participate in the remaining components of the Lieutenant’s promotional process.

Written Exam. The written exam shall be administered at least fourteen (14) days after all other components have been administered. The written exam shall be developed by an independent, outside agency and shall have been independently validated. The examination shall be based only on the contents of written materials that the Fire Chief has identified as being appropriate for the promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in the Northbrook Fire Department.

Written Exam. 1. The written test will be prepared and scored by the outside testing company engaged by the Sheriff and mutually agreed to by the union. The test will be prepared by a reputable company in business of writing such tests and will in no way be affiliated with a law enforcement agency in Clark County. Only the top eight (8) employees who score the prescribed minimum or above on the written exam, as determined by the testing agency, will be eligible to participate in the Assessment Center.

Personnel will be advised at least three weeks prior to the test administration as to the nature of the exam to be administered. All written exams shall be designated and drafted by an in-house committee. The committee shall consist of the Sheriff or his representative, the Director of Human Resources and a representative of Xxxxxxx Community College. Final approval of the testing instrument will rest with the Sheriff. The test shall not be subject to challenge unless there is substantial evidence of gross or intentional error in the content.
