Allowance for Teaching Experience. For purposes of placement and progression of all teachers, except occasional teachers, on the salary grid, the following shall apply: (a) all full-time or part-time teaching experience gained while engaged anywhere as a teacher holding a teaching certificate, or its equivalent, shall be credited by XXXXX in determining teaching experience for the purpose of placement of a teacher on the salary grid and shall be hereinafter referred to as an experience credit - credits for part-time teaching experience shall be pro-rated; (b) experience shall be granted, for salary purposes, on the basis of one (1) month credit for each month employed anywhere as a teacher with ten (10) months constituting a full year experience credit; (c) experience shall be credited as of August 31 in each year and shall be effective the following September 1; (d) a teacher shall be credited with ten (10) months and therefore with a full year experience credit if: (i) a teacher has taught for the year in a recognized academic institution or has been actively engaged in a teaching assignment under this Collective Agreement for the year, or (ii) a teacher has been absent for an accumulated total of not more than one half (1/2) of that teacher's regular number of teaching periods in the school year for reasons authorized by XXXXX, which shall include illness and maternity leave, and has been actively engaged in a teaching assignment for the remainder of that particular school year, or (iii) the teacher has been absent on leave granted under this Collective Agreement, with salary.

Allowance for Teaching Experience. Experience as a teacher, including experience as a Long-Term Occasional Teacher and/or as a Continuing Education Teacher, shall be recognized and calculated as follows: 1. (a) Pregnancy and/or parental leaves taken prior to September 1, 2000 shall be considered to be teaching experience for the statutory portion of the leave only. Effective September 1, 2002 pregnancy and/or parental leaves shall be considered to be teaching experience for the statutory portion of the leave only. (Agreement with grandparenting of those who accrued experience in the 2001- 2002 school year.)

Allowance for Teaching Experience. 10:01 Full allowance shall be granted for all previous experience on contract performed while certificated upon presentation of documentary proof by the Teacher of such experience and certification. 10:02 Experience gained prior to September 1, 1998 as a certificated Occasional Teacher shall be recognized as experience for grid purposes at the rate of 185 days equals one year. Effective September 1, 1998 experience for grid purposes shall be at the rate of 190 days equals one year. Adjustments for the grid placement shall be made as of September 1 in any year upon presentation of documentary proof provided by the Teacher. Documentation must be provided within 30 days of hire for adjustment in that year. 10:03 Experience on contract less than full-time or less than a complete year shall be pro-rated as a decimal of a year and accumulated at the end of each school year. When accumulated experience equals or exceeds .5, placement on the salary schedule shall be at the next year of experience the following September or date of commencement of service if subsequent to September 1. 10:04 Experience gained teaching summer school or night school shall not count as experience for the salary schedule. Where experience on a Letter of Permission has been accepted previously by the Board, it shall continue to be recognized for purposes of placement on salary schedule. 10:05 Example of calculation of part-time experience: Year 1 - 3.2 years = 3-year allowance on schedule; Year 2 - 3.2 years + .3 years = 3.5 years = 4-year allowance on schedule; Year 3 - 3.5 years + .7 years = 4.2 years = 4-year allowance on schedule.
