Assigned Service. ‌ (1) Except in cases of wrecks, snow blockades or washouts on the subdivision to which assigned, employees assigned run held at away-from-home terminal awaiting their train delayed beyond the advertised time of departure will be paid for all time so held if more than 5 hours. Five hours or less not to count. If held over 5 hours, payment will be made on the minute basis at 18-3/4 miles per hour in passenger service and at 12-1/2 miles per hour in other service for each hour over 5 hours at the rate of class of service last performed. Assigned Service. An assigned employee shall be available for his assignment if one of his workdays coincides with a general holiday and he has not been notified that the assignment is cancelled. An assigned employee who is required to hold himself for service other than that of his assignment will also be governed by the requirements for unassigned service.
Assigned Service. A locomotive engineer assigned to a regular run will, if available, follow such assignment. NOTE: When a train is operated ahead of its scheduled departure time, a definite effort will be made to contact the locomotive engineer affected thereby to so inform him or her the train is to be run early. When a locomotive engineer who cannot be so informed reports for duty before the assignment so operated departs, he or she will be allowed to follow the assignment and the spare locomotive engineer cancelled, provided no delay will accrue to the train.

If the layover is in excess of 8 hours, the return portion will be considered a separate assignment and will be paid a 11.875 kilometer allowance per unit as described in Article 2. (ii) On scheduled assignments including charters that do not have customer requirements that have layovers in excess of five (5) hours, operators will be provided a room. In instances where layovers are in excess of six (6) hours, operators will be provided single room accommodation. Layover times will be defined by scheduled arrival and departure times. (e) The minimum call for service on an assigned employee's rest day or for a call- back after completion of a tour of duty on a regular work day will be 192 kilometers at time and one-half. (a) When an operator is called to stand by and his/her services are not utilized, he/she shall be paid from the commencement of his/her stand-by until released with a minimum of 192 kilometers at pro rata (operator's) rate. (b) Employees will be advised promptly in writing, with reason, if time claimed is not allowed in full, and when claims for expenses are reduced. In case time is disputed, the time not in dispute will be paid in the current pay period. Time check will be issued upon request for any shortage adjusted.
