Examples of how these hours are used by the Union include: • For Executive Board members to attend meetings of the Executive Board, meetings of the general membership, and for preparation for negotiations. • For stewards to provide representation when a xxxxxxx from the employee’s home department or a full-time release employee is unavailable. • For a second representative to attend a grievance or investigative meeting. • For authorized representatives to attend Union conferences, meetings, seminars, training classes and workshops so that representatives better understand issues such as City policies and practices, conflict resolution, labor-management partnerships, and methods of effective representation. • For authorized representatives to research and prepare for grievance meetings and disciplinary hearings. • For authorized representatives to educate and communicate with unit members in support of City policies and programs, and participate in City partnerships. Only one representative may be released from the same work group at the same time. No representative will be permitted to use more than 420 hours of release time from the bank of hours in any one MOU year. Any hours used in excess of the bank of Union release hours must be approved by the Labor Relations Administrator and the LIUNA Local 777 Lead Business Manager. The number of hours used in excess of the allowable Union release hours at the end of the contract term will be deducted from the Union release hours available for the following year.
