Formal Education. The extent to which the internship is tied to the Intern’s formal education program by integrated coursework or the receipt of academic credit.
Formal Education. A. Leaves of absence without pay for college and library school study may be granted. An applicant for such leave must be an employee who has worked at least one (1) year for the Library at the time the leave begins. Leaves of absence do not exceed one (1) year in length.
B. Staff wishing to attend short courses or summer sessions of college or library school for credit may do so using vacation and/or compensatory time with additional leave without pay.
C. The Board may grant tuition reimbursement for courses of a job-related nature to full and part-time bargaining unit staff who are beyond their initial probationary period. (See Article 50)
D. Supervisors will make every effort to cooperate in arranging schedules so that staff members desiring to continue their education may be able to do so, especially when courses are pertinent to their jobs. However, schedule changes that would result in reduced efficiency or service will not be made, and it is the responsibility of the staff member to keep his supervisor updated and advised on a regular basis of her/his class schedules and proposed changes to their work schedules and any trades to accomplish the proposed change.
Formal Education must be a downtown campus McGill undergraduate student enrolled in a maximum of 6 credits per semester, although only three (3) credits per semester are recommended.

It is unavoidable that there will be closure for certain periods of galleries such as Food for Thought, which are very popular with schools due to their direct curriculum links. The figures increase again in 2000-01 with the opening of the Wellcome Wing, although the benefit on opening will only affect the second half of the year. Despite the opening of Wellcome Wing, the full year figure for 2000-01 is pulled down again because of the closure of the most popular gallery, Launch Pad, as part of the work leading up to the opening. Reduced figures for NMPFT during 1998-99 reflect the closure of the main Museum during that period.
