GRIEVANCE AND COMPLAINT PROCEDURE. 12.1.1 A "grievance" is an allegation by an employee, group of employees, or the Washoe Education Association based upon an alleged violation, misinterpretation, or inequitable application of any provision of the Negotiated Agreement.

Whenever an employee believes that he or she has a grievance as defined above, the employee should bring the matter to the attention of his or her supervisor, unless that supervisor is the subject of the grievance, as soon as possible but not later than ten (10) calendar days after receipt of knowledge of the act or event which is the basis of the grievance and shall be processed in the following manner:
GRIEVANCE AND COMPLAINT PROCEDURE. 18:01 The question of whether or not the subject matter of the grievance comes within the scope of this agreement may itself be carried through the grievance arbitration procedure as part of the grievance and determined accordingly. In any discharge or disciplinary grievance, a single arbitrator shall have the power to dispose of the grievance by any arrangement which, in the opinion of the single arbitrator, is deemed to be just and equitable, provided that such an arrangement is consistent with the terms of the collective agreement.
18:02 Within the terms of this agreement, a grievance shall be defined as a difference arising between a member of the Association, the Association, or both, and the Employer, as to the interpretation, application, or administration of the provisions of this agreement. All stages of the grievance shall be in writing and all replies shall also be in writing.
18:03 In order to provide an orderly and speedy procedure for the settling of grievances, the Employer acknowledges the right of the Association to appoint or elect a Grievance Committee Chairperson whose duties will be to notify the Employer of the names of the Firefighters serving on the Committee, as well as to assist any Firefighter in preparing and presenting the grievance. The Employer shall also be notified of changes in the personnel of said Committee, which may take place from time to time. 18:04 Following the occurrence and prior to the submission of any grievance, the Firefighter involved, who may request the assistance of the Grievance Committee, will present the complaint to the Senior Officer on duty and attempt to have the matter resolved not later than the end of the second regularly scheduled working day following the occurrence.
GRIEVANCE AND COMPLAINT PROCEDURE. Faculty members may, at their option, have Union representation at any meeting related to a complaint of discrimination or harassment under the University policy.
GRIEVANCE AND COMPLAINT PROCEDURE. STEP 1 When a member has any grievance or complaint, the member shall within one hundred twenty hours, convey to the member's immediate superior, in writing, the relevant material facts relative to the grievance or complaint. The member and the superior shall make every attempt to resolve the problem at this preliminary stage.
STEP 2 If the member and the superior fail to resolve the grievance or complaint to the satisfaction of the member, or if the superior fails to discuss, acknowledge or otherwise deal with the grievance within one hundred twenty hours the member may within forty-eight hours invoke the following procedure in an attempt to remedy the cause of the member's grievance or complaint. The member shall have no right to this procedure unless the member first attempts to resolve the difference by the preliminary procedure.
STEP 3 The member shall communicate the member's grievance or complaint in writing to the Chief of Police and to the official representative of the Association, setting down the matters pertinent to the dispute.
STEP 4 Such presentation shall be a meeting between the Chief or his designate and the Grievance Committee or it’s designate(s) to be held within seven calendar days of the filing of the grievance under Step 3.
STEP 5 The Chief of Police or his designate shall with reasonable dispatch, hear or receive the grievance or complaint and within ten days communicate in writing his/her decision relative to the grievance or complaint.
STEP 6 The Association may, if dissatisfied with the ruling of the Chief of Police or the Chief's designate or if the Chief of Police or the Chief's designate fail or refuse to deal with the grievance or complaint within the specified time file with the Board the grievance or complaint within fifteen days of the date the grievance or complaint was submitted to the Chief of Police or his designate.
STEP 7 The Board shall investigate the grievance or complaint and/or cause an inquiry to be held between the persons involved in the dispute, and shall within thirty days of receipt of the grievance or complaint submit in writing their decision in the matter.
STEP 8 The Association may, if dissatisfied with the decision of the Board or if the Board fails to communicate, acknowledge or inquire into the grievance or complaint within the specified time, the matter may be submitted to an arbitrator.
