IN-SERVICE COURSES Clause Samples
The "IN-SERVICE COURSES" clause defines the terms under which employees may participate in training or educational programs while employed. Typically, this clause outlines eligibility criteria, the process for requesting approval, and whether attendance is mandatory or voluntary. It may also specify if the employer will cover costs or provide time off for such courses. The core function of this clause is to facilitate ongoing professional development for employees, ensuring they have opportunities to enhance their skills and stay current in their field.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. Announcement of in-service courses shall be made as soon as they are available.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. 9.1 The Board and the Association recognize the need for Educators to update their professional skills and the need for professional growth throughout one’s career in education. Both parties also recognize the potential for said growth through in-service education. To facilitate this, both parties agree to create a Professional Development Plan (PDP) Committee consisting of three (3) members appointed by the Board of Education and three (3) members appointed by the President of the Association. This committee shall only be advisory to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Superintendent of Schools and Board of Education.
9.2 This Committee shall have the following objectives:
9.2.1 To determine those areas in which in-service courses would most benefit our staff and our District.
9.2.2 To investigate resources which might be utilized to provide these courses.
9.2.3 To present the Board and the Association with proposed in-service courses for each school year.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. In-service courses are considered a part of the professional growth of the staff. In-service courses approved by the Superintendent will represent a minimum of fifteen (15) class hours.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. 8.2.1 When worthwhile programs or definite District needs for new member knowledge arise, the Association, Administrative Staff, or the Board of Education may bring forth the need.
8.2.2 A determination shall be made by the Association and the District as to how best this new knowledge or information could be presented to the staff members concerned with the new project or undertaking.
8.2.3 The District has the final right to disapprove the offering of any new in-service course.
8.2.4 Members successfully completing District-approved in-service courses will be paid a one- time lump sum amount, based on $20.49 (2014-16) and $20.80 (2016-17) per clock hour in accordance with approved/required in-service course.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. 1. It shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent, with the assistance of the Instructional Advisory Council, to recommend in-service courses to the Board.
2. A summary of each Board-sponsored in-service course and a statement of salary Instructional Advisory Council, to recommend in-service courses to the Board.
3. A summary of each Board-sponsored in-service course and a statement of salary guide credit to be awarded shall be submitted to the staff by the Superintendent
IN-SERVICE COURSES. Salary guide credit will be granted only with prior approval of the Superintendent for "in-service" courses offered by non-degree granting groups and/or institutions outside the Edison School System. Courses sponsored by the Board will carry salary guide credit as indicated in the announcement of such courses.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. 1. The teaching profession as described in D1 above, requires continued studies. In- service credit is recognized as an avenue to achieve this puipose. The in-service course(s) should be chosen to achieve this purpose. The in-service course(s) should be chosen to promote district goals and to pursue professional development. Courses taken by teachers shall be in alignment with district and school goals and should be in areas that are not currently being provided by the district. Evidence must be produced of satisfactory completion of courses and attendance requirements. Should the district not be able to provide courses in these areas of instructional needs, the district may approve in-service courses which meet the following guidelines.
2. Subject to prior approval, in-service courses and workshops will be compensated at the rate reflected in Appendix F. Evidence must be produced of satisfactory completion of courses and attendance requirements.
3. There shall be a lifetime maximum of eighteen (18) in-service credits for salary adjustments, paid at the same rate as graduate credits.
4. Teachers who have received payment for in-service credit prior to 1978-79 shall continue to receive such payment. Such payment shall be equivalent to that paid for graduate credits.
5. The Board may require a teacher’s participation in fifteen (15) hours of local in- service work every three (3) years. The Board shall compensate such teachers at the rate reflected in Appendix F.
6. Effective January 1, 2013, tuition for the required courses for BCSD coaching certificates by a ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ teacher will be reimbursed by the District, if the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ teacher is appointed for a coaching position during that school year. The above reimbursement shall be paid at the conclusion of the season during which the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ teacher coaches for BCSD. In addition, if a ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ teacher is appointed for a coaching position during that school year, the District shall provide, where possible, at no cost to the member, yearly courses in CPR and First Aid (initial and update). The District will provide such courses after school hours and the unit member shall not be entitled to any additional compensation for time spent at the course.
7. It shall be in the Superintendent’s or his/her designee’s sole discretion to determine approval for in-service credits earned.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. 1. Per-diem substitute teachers shall be eligible for available openings in all professional in-District in-service courses offered to East Williston teachers.
2. Workshops for per-diem substitute teachers in new curriculum and methods used or being initiated within the District may be offered.
3. Any per-diem substitute teacher completing curriculum workshops described in 2 above shall receive for each successfully completed workshop five (5) days of credit applied to his or her number of days of accumulated service up to a limit of ten (10) days of such credit per school year.
4. The provisions of 3 above are subject to adjustment in particular instances by mutual agreement between the Superintendent of Schools and the President of the Association.

IN-SERVICE COURSES. 1. Staff members giving in-service courses at the school will be compensated at a rate of $30 per hour for course time and $15 per hour for mutually agreed upon planning time. Detailed plans for such workshops will be submitted in advance for consideration by the Superintendent. Upon recommendation by the Superintendent and approval by the Board, a contract will be issued.
