IN-SERVICE COURSES. 9.1 The Board and the Association recognize the need for Educators to update their professional skills and the need for professional growth throughout one’s career in education. Both parties also recognize the potential for said growth through in-service education. To facilitate this, both parties agree to create a Professional Development Plan (PDP) Committee consisting of three (3) members appointed by the Board of Education and three (3) members appointed by the President of the Association. This committee shall only be advisory to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Superintendent of Schools and Board of Education.

9.2.3 To present the Board and the Association with proposed in-service courses for each school year.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. 1. It shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent, with the assistance of the LPDC, to recommend in-service courses to the Board.
2. A summary of each Board-sponsored in-service course and a statement of salary guide credit to be awarded shall be submitted to the staff by the Superintendent
IN-SERVICE COURSES. Salary guide credit will be granted only with prior approval of the Superintendent for "in- service" courses offered by non-degree granting groups and/or institutions outside the Edison School System. Courses sponsored by the Board will carry salary guide credit as indicated in the announcement of such courses.
IN-SERVICE COURSES. (A) In-service courses are designed to meet the needs of the school district for the improvement of instruction and individual staff efficiency.
(B) Each unit member who teaches an in-service course will receive twice the amount of credits that are received by those unit members successfully completing said in-service course. The teaching of an in-service course is optional. Unit members who teach a course shall receive 1½ times their hourly base rate of pay.

In order to obtain salary credit for any course (college or in-service), the unit member shall receive prior written approval of the Superintendent. In unusual circumstances, the Superintendent may grant approval after the beginning of the course; i.e., the original course was closed or canceled and an appropriate substitute course is offered. Credits shall be reckoned twice each year, on September 30 and on or about February 15.

2. Paraprofessional Aides shall be granted up to $440.00 tuition reimbursement per year. In order to be approved for tuition reimbursement, courses taken by paraprofessionals must be taken through a duly authorized institution of higher learning, accredited and recognized by the State of New Jersey, and the course(s) sought must be related to the job responsibilities of the staff member’s current or foreseeable future assignment.
