K-9 Officers. Deputies assigned to work with a canine shall receive four (4) hours straight time per seven (7)-day period for care and feeding of the canine. Time off allowed per workweek, or the four (4) hours pay for canine care shall be considered appropriate compensation for canine maintenance for the entire week, including days off.

K-9 Officers. K-9 handlers assigned a dog will receive additional compensation of 3.5% of employee’s base rate while assigned to the unit.
K-9 Officers. K-9 officers shall be paid a maximum payout of a half hour (.5) of overtime per day per dog for the care and maintenance of a department K-9 and other duties unique to the K-9 unit.
K-9 Officers. Canine Handlers will be compensated as follows for kennel time:
K-9 Officers. Personnel who serve as K-9 officers of the Sheriff's Office shall receive extra compensation at the rate of Three Hundred Sixty Dollars ($360) per month (based on sixteen [16] hours per month at 1.5 times the hourly rate of $15.00 per hour) for daily care and maintenance of the animal, including, but not limited to, feeding grooming, exercising, veterinary visits, clean-up and bonding. Such pay will be prorated where only part of the pay period is so served. When such officers are actually called out, they shall be compensated in accordance with Section 9.5, in addition to the pay under this section. If the K-9 officer is required to attend specific advance training with the animal during the K-9 officer’s non-working hours and/or if the K-9 officer is required to make public appearances with the dog, during the K-9 officer’s non-working hours, the K-9 officer shall submit a request for overtime compensation at the officer’s current overtime rate. Approval of such overtime is subject to authorization in advance by the Sheriff or his designee. Additionally, K-9 officers shall receive a two percent (2%) premium in recognition of the skill, training and hazards involved in the position.
K-9 Officers. Employees, who work with a canine, shall receive three‐point‐six‐nine‐three (3.693) hours per pay period at the time and one‐half (1½) rate.
K-9 Officers. K-9 Officers will be relieved of their regular duty shift 15 minutes prior to its end in order to care for their dogs. K-9 Officers will be paid at their full rate for this time. If there is a need for them to spend any additional time caring for their dogs, they will be compensated at a rate of fifty percent (50%) of their regular rate of pay. Up to seven hours of such additional time during a work period is preauthorized, but anything above that must be authorized by the Sheriff or his/her designee. The overtime provisions of this collective bargaining agreement, as well as state and federal law, still apply.

K-9 Officers. In each 28-day FLSA work period, K-9 Officers shall be granted sixteen (16) hours of release time as compensation for the time it is necessary for the deputy to care for, groom, feed, and maintain the canine during off-duty hours. The K-9 Officers’ supervisor will use his/her best effort to schedule this release time with the K-9 Officer at least seven (7) calendar days in advance. Release time must be scheduled and used by the K-9 Officer during the 28-day FLSA work period in which it is accrued. Release time will normally be scheduled to coincide with the beginning or end of a K-9 Officer’s work shift.
K-9 Officers. Those employees assigned as K-9 officers or relief for K-9 officers shall be compensated for their extra duties and responsibilities by being paid for an additional seven (7) hours of work per paycheck at their applicable overtime rate of pay pursuant to Section 7.3(a). In addition, the City shall provide such officers with all equipment related to the care of the dog, including a dog run, dog food, veterinary care, and insurance coverage (as recommended by the insurance carrier); the City shall also provide such officers with a pool of proper safety equipment for the physical management of the dogs and their training, i.e., leashes, plastic/leather muzzles, a full body attack suit, and any other state of the art devices which may be deemed necessary (by the handlers and management) to adequately protect/train the team.
K-9 Officers. The City will pay the K-9 Officer a $6,000 annual stipend paid out proportionately per paycheck each Fiscal Year. Pursuant to 29 Code of Federal Regulations Section 778.419, the City and FPEA understand and agree that this additional compensation is intended to compensate canine officers for all off duty hours spent caring, grooming, feeding and otherwise maintaining their canine unit, in compliance with the FLSA and interpretive cases and rulings. The parties acknowledge that the FLSA, which governs the entitlement to compensation for canine duties, entitles the parties to agree to a reasonable number of hours per month for the performance of off duty canine duties. Required K-9 training outside of a regularly scheduled workday shall be paid at T-1/2 of the officer’s rate of pay. Food, paid grooming, and veterinary expenses to be reimbursed. Assignment of this position is at the discretion of the Police Chief.
