PREPARATION AND CONFERENCE TIME. Preparation time shall be teacher directed to prepare for classroom learning and instruction.

In addition, the principals and the Superintendent shall be responsible to balance teaching loads, classroom preparations and assignments. If any teacher feels they have been treated unjustly after meeting with the building Principal and then the Superintendent, they may appeal the Administrative decision to the Board of Education. A concentrated effort will be made to be fair and consistent to all staff members.

Special area bargaining unit members shall include Physical Education, Art, Music, Speech, Title I, and Special Education for this Article only.
B. The elementary bargaining unit member (K-6) shall be provided at least five (5) preparation periods, totaling a minimum of two hundred (200) minutes per week.
C. Special area elementary bargaining unit members (Physical Education, Art, Music, Speech, Title I, and Special Education) shall be provided at least the equivalent of five
PREPARATION AND CONFERENCE TIME. A. The term "preparation and conference time" shall mean work time during the bargaining unit member workday, exclusive of the professional staff member's daily duty-free lunch period. This time may be used by a professional staff member for any teacher-related duties.
B. All elementary bargaining unit members (K-6) and special area elementary bargaining unit members (art, music, health and physical education) shall be provided preparation time of at least thirty (30) consecutive minutes each with at least one per day inside the student day. Each bargaining unit member shall have at least 225 minutes of preparation time per week. Not more than seventy-five (75) minutes of preparation time shall occur outside of the student day. No more than two preparation periods shall occur in one day. Each bargaining unit member shall have at least one preparation period per day. In the event of financial constraints which lead to the reduction of special area personnel, conference/preparation time will be reduced to 200 minutes per week within the employee workday.
C. In grades 7-12 preparation and conference time is to be at least 45 consecutive minutes daily. If the administration intends to implement a "modified block schedule," in grades 7 - 12, the staff of the building affected shall meet with the administration to negotiate the impact of the new schedule as it affects preparation and conference time. To achieve a preparation/conference time of 45 consecutive minutes, the passing time at the beginning or end of a regular class period may be counted. Community and school communication ideally should be such that most complaints may be resolved through personal conferences at the school level. Various avenues of contact between members of the bargaining unit, complainant, principal, and other appropriate staff personnel should be pursued before using the formal procedures outlined below. Any complaint or inquiry as to a bargaining unit member’s classroom performance will be forwarded to that bargaining unit member as soon as possible, preferably that same day.

Members may be asked but will not be required to cover a class during this preparation and conference time unless the staff member has in excess of 200 minutes of planning time per week. The Board agrees to make every effort to provide a “substitute” teacher at the daily substitute rate of pay. Teachers will not be asked to teach online students in addition to a full 5- day weekly schedule without making appropriate time available for them to do so or compensating them for time spent after the regular work schedule.

PREPARATION AND CONFERENCE TIME. Middle school and high school (7-12) members shall be provided a daily preparation period for planning, preparation, and/or conferences at least equal to the same length as a regular class period. For purposes of block scheduling at the high school, “regular class period” shall mean one block of ninety (90) minutes. Elementary members (K-6) shall have a daily preparation period during the student day of not less than thirty (30) continuous minutes in length. Recess time shall be excluded from preparation period calculations. Special area members, such as but not limited to art, music, and physical education, shall have preparation time scheduled in the same manner as and equal to regular members at their level. Travel time between buildings shall not be considered as preparation time. Teachers who travel between Xxxx High School and another school within the district shall have their planning time calculated by
(A) determining the percents of time they spend in each school to which they are assigned;
(B) multiplying the percents arrived at in (A) times the planning time guaranteed in this section for each of the schools to which they are assigned; and
(C) adding the results together. The Board shall attempt to schedule the amount of planning time arrived at using the calculation above for each traveling teacher. If the Board is unable to schedule the amount of planning time arrived at by using the calculation above as one uninterrupted block of time, it shall schedule as close as possible to that amount of planning as one uninterrupted block of time. Notwithstanding the above, no full-time classroom member shall receive less than two hundred (200) minutes each work week for planning, evaluation, and/or conferences.
PREPARATION AND CONFERENCE TIME. The Wapakoneta City Board of Education will strive to equalize the duties of all staff members to permit as much conference time as possible. This time shall be in addition to art, music, physical education, or any additional special(s) periods provided in the elementary schools.
