Promotional Advancement. The Sheriff reserves and shall have the right to make promotions based primarily on' ability, seniority, qualifications, and performance of duty. Promotional vacancies shall normally be filled by the promotion of employees already in the depart- ment, except in cases where there is not qualified person available in the department, in which case such vacancies may be filled from outside the department. In making promotions, consideration shall be given to the applicant's' ability, seniority, qualifications, performance records, and the results of competitive examinations given.

Promotional Advancement. Unit Members who have achieved permanency with the 23 District and who then subsequently promote to a different job classification will be 24 placed on probation for ninety (90) days of paid service if the promotion is to a related 1 job classification (ex. Clerk Typist to Secretary). At the District’s option, the probationary 2 period may be extended for thirty (30) additional days of paid service, provided the 3 extension of the probationary period is not as a result of the evaluator’s failure to 4 evaluate in a timely manner.

Promotional Advancement. Employees promoted to a higher paid job classification who are placed on Step 1 of the Salary Schedule, will be advanced one step on the Salary Schedule following 90 consecutive days of employment or July 1 whichever comes first.
