Replacement of Absences. (a) When an unplanned absence occurs (e.g. due to unexpected sick leave) the NUM (or delegate) will immediately review the roster to determine the effect of the absence on workload. (b) Where the NUM (or delegate) determines to backfill the absence, the default position is to fill the absence with a nurse of the same classification as the absent nurse. (c) If all avenues to backfill the absence with a nurse at the same classification are exhausted and the only remaining option is to backfill the absence with a nurse of a lower classification, the NUM (or delegate) must consider how the functions performed in the xxxx/unit can be safely and appropriately performed by a nurse of another nursing classification. (d) In some circumstances it may be possible to backfill with a nurse of a lower classification. Where it is determined to backfill with a nurse of a lower classification, a record of this, together with the reasons, must be made.

Replacement of Absences. The employer will ensure that the backfilling of any position will be undertaken by appropriately qualified and/or experienced staff, taking account of operational and legislative requirements to ensure that patients receive high quality and continuity of care.
Replacement of Absences. The parties are committed to ensuring that staff absences do not impact on customer service or adversely increase workloads on other staff. Management will make an informed decision on how this may best be achieved through such processes as work team discussion, prioritising workloads and/or replacement of the absence. When determining whether to appoint or transfer a staff member the following issues will be taken into consideration: • Existing workloads; • Customer service requirements; • The length of the (proposed) absence; and • Occupational Health and Safety Standards of employees affected by the absences. Where appropriate, employees also have the opportunity to raise any issues under occupational health and safety. Positions with a direct customer service focus should backfilled as a matter of priority. In addition, in the event of resignations, positions will be filled in a timely manner to minimise increase of workloads for existing staff.

Replacement of Absences. The employer has a commitment and will use its best endeavours to ensure that appropriate staff levels will be maintained whenever possible. In order to achieve this, absences will be: 6.12.1(a) Backfilled where possible by appropriately trained staff. 6.12.1(b) Replacement shall be discussed with the affected Manager/Supervisor; where possible this 6.12.1(c) Positions with a direct customer service focus should be backfilled as a matter of priority.
Replacement of Absences. The parties recognise the need to maintain appropriate levels of customer service and staffing during periods of leave to minimise any occupational stress which absences may impose on employees. Agency hire staff will be employed as a last resort under the same terms and conditions as permanent employees.
