Resident Educators. School district administrators shall not use a resident educator’s ODE assessment information in the district’s evaluation of the resident educator. Any documents pertaining to the Resident Educator Program and the ODE assessment shall be confidential to the extent permitted by law.
Resident Educators a. Resident Educator Mentors will be assigned to Resident Educators in accordance with Ohio Resident Educator Program to provide mentor support for Resident Educators in years 1 and 2. Resident Educator Mentors must minimally have (1) a five (5) year Professional license, (2) five (5) years of teaching experience, (3) recent classroom experience within the last five (5) years, and (4) successfully completed state-sponsored mentor training (i.e., Resident Educator – 1 and Instructional Mentoring). b. Resident Educator Lead Mentors will be assigned to Resident Educators in accordance with the Ohio Resident Educator Program to provide Lead Mentor support for the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) for Resident Educators in years 3 and 4. Resident Educator Lead Mentors will be experienced, licensed, educators who understand the content and processes of the Resident Educator (RE) Program and who have completed ODE’s required online, two-hour Lead Mentor Training. c. Resident Educator Mentors and Resident Educator Lead Mentors may be assigned from either the SHTA teachers bargaining unit or the SHTA-ST support teachers bargaining unit.
Resident Educators. Resident educators shall be provided Professional leave to observe other classroom teachers at their level.
Resident Educators a. Training on the methods of assessment shall be provided to Resident Educators at no cost to the employee. Such training time shall be in addition to any other professional leave to which the Resident Educators may be entitled. b. No Resident Educator may be compelled to release information to the District regarding the Resident Educator’s assessment nor may such information be used in the evaluation of the Resident Educator by school district administrators. Any documents pertaining to the Resident Educator Program and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) assessment shall be confidential to the extent permitted by law. c. No later than six (6) weeks after the initiation of the resident mentor program, the Resident Educator may exercise the option to request a new mentor. If a new mentor is assigned, the former mentor shall have his/her supplemental terminated without recourse to the grievance procedure and ORC 3319.
Resident Educators a. Any teacher employed under a resident educator license is required to participate in the Resident Educator program. b. A teacher who participates in the program must complete all required activities in order for the Superintendent to approve completion of the program. c. A resident educator may be given an initial orientation on the Resident Educator Program and shall attend this orientation with the mentor. d. A resident educator may be provided release time equivalent to at least two (2) days per year for the purpose of observing classes, meeting with his/her mentor, attending recommended workshops, assessment preparation, etc. These days may be used in quarter (1/4) day increments and shall be coordinated with the building Principal. Additional release time may be granted at the discretion of the building Principal.

Resident Educators a. Each Resident Educator as well as teachers new to the District shall be given an initial orientation on the following matters. i. The pupils and community to be served; ii. School policies, procedures, and routines; iii. Courses of study, competency-based education programs, and responsibilities for lesson plans; iv. The layout of the facilities of the assigned school building(s); v. The nature of the Mentoring Program which will be provided; and vi. Additional information a new teacher may need to be adequately prepared for a specific assignment. b. Each Resident Educator shall be provided with the following throughout the school year: i. Assistance in acquiring knowledge of the school curriculum, responsibilities for implementing that curriculum, and the instructional resources available for such implementation; ii. Assistance with the management tasks identified as especially difficult for new teachers; iii. Assistant in the improvement of instructional skills and classroom management; and iv. The opportunity to consult/observe other teachers both within and outside of the District.
