Sick Leave Buy Back Upon Retirement. Upon retirement, drivers who have accrued 75 compensable days may sell back 50 days at the rate of $60.00 per day.
Sick Leave Buy Back Upon Retirement. Upon an employee’s retirement, the Village will pay the retiring employee the current straight time hourly rate or equivalent for every hour of sick time in excess of four hundred (400) hours, which the employee has accrued.
Sick Leave Buy Back Upon Retirement. This provision shall only be applicable to bargaining unit employees who voluntarily retire during the term of this collective bargaining agreement and receive a pension pursuant to the Policemen’s Pension Fund, 40 ILCS 5/3-101 et seq. Effective on or after January 1, 2007, any such officer may, at time of separation, request a buy back of accrued sick leave days in excess of 60 days, as specified herein. Those days in excess of 60 may be bought back at the rate of 1/3 of a day’s pay for each such day, provided a maximum of 90 days may be applied to this sick leave payout provision, for a total of 30 days of pay at time of separation. The proceeds of any such sick leave buy back may be placed into the Retirement Health Savings Plan established by the Village, subject to the terms and conditions of the RHS Plan. For example, if an employee resigns with 75 days of accrued but unused sick leave, the employee may request a buy back of 15 days (75 minus 60) at the rate of 1/3 of a day’s pay for each day, for a total of 5 days pay.

For those officers that were promoted to the rank of Sergeant prior to January 1, 1999, upon retirement, the Village shall pay the retiring employee the current straight time hourly rate of equivalent for every hour of sick time which the employee has accrued and not used, subject to the provisions of § 6.5 of this Article. For those employees that were promoted to the rank of Sergeant on or after January 1, 1999, upon retirement, the Village will pay the retiring employee the current straight time hourly rate or equivalent for every hour of sick time in excess of four hundred (400) hours, which the employee has accrued and not used, subject to the provisions of § 6.5 of this Article.
Sick Leave Buy Back Upon Retirement. 1) Upon retirement for service and age or disability from a State administered retirement system, each employee who has accumulated at least fifty (50) sick leave days shall be entitled to receive a lump sum retirement payment for any earned and unused accumulated sick leave days in excess of fifty (50) but not exceeding the amounts set forth hereinafter. For teachers, such payment shall be made at the rate of $40.00 per day, $45.00 per day, and $50 per day in 2012-2013, 2013- 2014, and 2014-2015, respectively, for each day of earned and unused accumulated sick leave beyond the first 50 days accumulated, but not to exceed a total of $4,000.00. For secretaries, such payment shall be made at the rate of $30.00 per day, $35.00 per day, and $40.00, per day in 2012- 2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015, respectively, for each day of earned and unused accumulated sick leave beyond the first 50 days accumulated, but not to exceed a total of $3,100.00. An employee who elects a deferred retirement benefit shall not be eligible for the retirement payment.
2) Notice of intention to claim the benefits provided herein must be made in writing to the Board on or before November 1st prior to the year in which the retirement becomes effective. In the event an employee fails to give notice by November 1st for the reason that such employee has not at that time determined to retire, but subsequently, due to some unforeseen reason such employee is compelled to retire, the employee shall give notice of the condition causing the retirement as soon as possible. In the event such employee demonstrates valid reason to waive the November 1st notice date, he or she will receive the benefit provided for. The Board, however, may defer payment of all or part of the benefit to the year following the retirement.

For those officers entering the bargaining unit on or after January 1, 1999, upon retirement, the Village will pay the retiring officer the current straight time hourly rate or equivalent for every hour of sick time in excess of four hundred 400 hours, which the officer has accrued and not used, subject to the provisions of §10.9 of this Article.

A Paraprofessional will be paid upon the Paraprofessional’s retirement from the Arlington Public Schools, twenty-two dollars and fifty cents ($22.50) for each unused sick day above 50 up to maximum of 150 days. There shall be no payment for the first 50 days of unused sick leave and no payment for more than 100 days. If a Paraprofessional who is eligible to retire from the Arlington Public Schools dies while in the employment of the Committee, the payment shall be made to the Paraprofessional’s estate.
