Special Education Class Size. Class size for elementary, middle, and high school resource rooms shall be a maximum of 12 students. Hearing impaired class size shall be a maximum of 10 students.

Special Education Class Size. 5 The following class sizes are recommended guidelines to be considered, if feasible, when 6 making the unique student placement determinations required for students placed in the 7 following settings:

10 b. Elementary - 25 students or 40 units* 11 c. Secondary - 35 students or 50 units* 12 d. Moderately handicapped - 10 students or 40 units* 13 e. Behaviorally Disadvantaged - 8 different students or 40 units* 14 f. School Psychologists – 135 students 15 g. Preschool – 25 students 16 h. Therapists – 50 students. 18 *A unit is one class period, if no such “period” is designated for a particular program, then it 19 shall mean one (1) sixty (60) minute period. 21 5. Specialists:
22 a. Elementary specialists (physical education and music) basic class load shall be thirty (30) 23 students per class period. Workload shall not exceed ten (10) classes per workday. Each 24 specialist shall mutually establish with the building principals, their daily work schedule.
Special Education Class Size. Special Education Teachers shall be assigned enrollments in accordance with provisions of the State Education Code. Special education teacher caseloads:
1. Mild to Moderate caseloads of up to 28 students.
2. Moderate to Severe caseloads shall not exceed a District wide average of 15 students with no class to exceed 18 students.
3. The START Transitional 18-22 program is not subject to caseload limits other than as allowable by law.
Special Education Class Size. Early Childhood Education-ECE 38 39 The ECE program is a four day a week attendance program for 40 students. The fifth day (non-attendance day for students) is for 41 activities such as family/community connections, new student 42 evaluations, Childfind, home visits, etc. 2 When presented with a lack of resources to meet the unique needs of 3 student(s), a teacher may initiate a request to special education 4 leadership for support. Support may include but are not limited to:
Special Education Class Size. When a student’s IEP calls for services in a general education classroom, the student must be served in a class that is composed of students of whom at least 70 percent are without IEPs (excluding Speech and Language IEP’s), that utilizes the general curriculum, that is taught by an instructor certified for regular (general) education, and that is not designated as a general remedial classroom. A student shall be considered to require “instructional” classes when he or she receives special education instruction for 50 percent of the school day or more. Classes for such students shall be subject to the following limitations:
1) Early childhood instructional classes shall have a maximum ratio of one qualified teacher to five students in attendance at any given time; total enrollment shall be limited according to the needs of the students for individualized programming.
2) Instructional classes for students who have either a severe/profound disability or multiple disabilities shall have a maximum enrollment of five students.
3) Instructional classes for children whose primary disability is a severe visual, auditory, physical, speech or language impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, or an emotional disability or behavioral disorder shall have a maximum enrollment of eight students.
4) Instructional classes for children whose primary disability is a specific learning disability or that serve children who have different disabilities shall have a maximum enrollment of ten students. Instructional programs that group students who have different disabilities shall be formulated only under the following circumstances:
A) The students are grouped in relation to a common educational need; or
B) The program can be completely individualized and the teacher is qualified to plan and provide an appropriate educational program for each student in the group.
5) Instructional classes designed for children whose primary disability is moderate visual or auditory impairment shall have a maximum enrollment of 12 students.
6) Instructional classes for children whose primary disability is mild/moderate cognitive disability shall have a maximum enrollment of 12 students at the primary level and 15 students at the intermediate, middle school, and secondary levels.

Special Education Class Size. 11.3.1 The District shall make every reasonable effort to maintain special education classes which do not exceed the state maximum.
Special Education Class Size. 12.4.1 The District shall observe all legally required maximums in caseload and class size. For example: California Education Code Section 56362 (c) (Resource Specialists: 28). The District shall make every effort to equalize caseloads and class sizes within grade levels and programs consistent with the needs of the student as set forth in the student’s (IEP) and the unique features of each group.
