Special Single Shift. When the Individual Employer produces evidence in writing to the appropriate Local Union or the Union of a bona fide job requirement which certifies that work can only be done outside the normal shift hours, and notifies the appropriate Local Union or the Union during the pre-job conference or by fax, e-mail or certified mail at least three
(3) days prior to the start of such special shift (except in cases of emergency) the Individual Employer may initiate such special shift of eight (8) consecutive hours (not in conjunction with any other shift), exclusive of meal period, Monday through Friday. Such shift shall be in accordance with the provisions of Section 5(H). Provided, however, if, by direction of the Contracting Authority, the bid specifications require it, or congestive traffic conditions on Fridays are such that working conditions would be unsafe for Employees, or counter- productive to the performance of work, the special single shift may commence on Sunday, with double (2) time to be paid from 8:00 p.m. Saturday up to and including 8:00 p.m. Sunday and the applicable straight-time rate paid from 8:00 p.m. Sunday until the completion of the eight (8) hour special single shift. If Sunday is the first day of the workweek as provided herein, all hours worked between 8:00 p.m. Friday and 8:00 p.m. Saturday shall be paid at time and one-half (1 ½). If Saturday is the first day of the workweek as provided herein, all hours worked between 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 8:00 p.m. Sunday shall be paid at double time. The straight time rate for such special shift shall be $2.00 per hour above the appropriate straight time wage rate otherwise specified in this Agreement.
Special Single Shift. When the Individual Employer produces evidence in writing to the Union of a bona fide job requirement for a public agency or a public utility which certifies that some or all of the work can only be done other than during the normal shift hours, and notifies the Union during the pre-job conference or by FAX, E- MAIL, or certified mail at least three (3) days before the start of such special shift (except in the case of emergency), the Individual Employer may initiate such special shift of eight (8) consecutive hours (not in conjunction with any other shift) (exclusive of meal period), Monday through Friday. Effective June 29, 2020, the current Special Single and Second Shift Rates shall each increase by one dollar ($1.00). Such shift shall be in accordance with the provisions of Section 06.02.00.

Special Single Shift. When the Employer produces evidence in writing to the appropriate Local Union of the Union of a bona fide job requirement for a public agency which certifies that work can only be performed outside the normal shift hours, and notifies the appropriate Local Union of the Union by mail at least three (3) days prior to the start of such special shift, the Employer may initiate such special shift of (8) consecutive hours (not in conjunction with any other shift), exclusive of meal period, Monday through Friday. The straight time rate for such special shift shall be three dollars ($3.00) per hour above the appropriate straight time rate otherwise specified in this Agreement but shall not exceed the prevailing rate as adopted by such public agency for this specific project.
Section 5. The Union agrees to waive the sick leave benefits set forth in Labor Code Sections 245-249 as well as the benefit of any future local sick leave ordinances or statutes that may be waived through collective bargaining.
Special Single Shift. 1. The Union and the Employer recognize that there are situations where work must be done over shifts that do not fit within the standard “workday” definition in Section 11(A), or within the “second shift” and “third shift” definitions in Section 11(C). In situations that are not considered “shift work” under Section 11(C), and where four (4) hours or more are worked between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the Employer may schedule a “special single shift.” The Employer may schedule the “special single shift” to be the length of a standard workday, or may schedule it to be ten (10) hours long, consistent with Section 11(B)(3). “Special single shift” starting times and lengths will be designated on a weekly basis.
2. All time worked outside of the established “special single shift” shall be considered overtime and shall be paid at one and one-half (1.5) times the normal hourly wage. Any time worked on a Sunday or Holiday shall be paid at double the normal hour wage as defined under Section 11(B)(2).
3. All hours worked in a “special single shift” shall be compensated by an additional monetary equivalent of ten percent (10%) per hour of the Xxxxxxxxx Journeyperson hourly wage rate. The additional monetary equivalent of ten percent (10%) per hour of the Xxxxxxxxx Journeyperson hourly wage rate is not included in the overtime rate.
4. No employee shall be required to work a broken shift. Employees shall have at least 8 hours off between the end of one shift and the start of the next shift.
5. No employee shall be required to work more than one shift in a 24 hour period without a break of at least eight (8) hours between shifts.

Such shift shall be in accordance with the provisions of subsection 5(a) of this Section. Provided, however, if, by direction of the Contracting Authority, the bid specifications require it, or congestive traffic conditions on Fridays are such that work conditions would be unsafe for employees, or counter-productive to the performance of work, the special single shift may commence on Sunday with double (2) time to be paid from the start of the shift to midnight and the applicable straight-time rate paid from midnight until completion of the eight (8) hour special single shift.
Special Single Shift. When the Individual Employer produces evidence in writing to the Union of a bona fide job requirement for a public agency or a public utility which certifies that some or all of the work can only be done other than during the normal shift hours, and notifies the Union during the pre-job conference or by FAX, E-MAIL, or certified mail at least three (3) days before the start of such special shift (except in the case of emergency), the Individual Employer may initiate such special shift of eight (8) consecutive hours (not in con- junction with any other shift) (exclusive of meal period), Monday through Friday. Effective June 26, 2023, the current Special Single and Second Shift Rates shall include a six-dollar ($6.00) differential for each classification. This shall apply for projects advertised for bid on or after the publication date of the determination containing this increase. Such shift shall be in accordance with the provisions of Section 06.02.00.

When the Employer produces evidence in writing to the Union of a bona fide job requirement for a public agency or a public utility which certifies that some or all of the work can only be done other than during the normal shift hours, and notifies the Union by certified mail or fax transmittal at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the start of such special shift (except in the case of emergency), the Employer may initiate such special shift of eight (8) consecutive hours (not in conjunction with any other shift) (exclusive of meal period),
