Special Trip Assignments. Special trip charts shall be maintained and posted by the Employer for the purpose of equalizing the distribution of said assignments. A special trip that is refused by an employee shall be charged as a trip taken on the special trip chart. Such procedure is to be worked out through a committee of Transportation Employees and the Transportation Director.

2. In reference to special trips, an effort will be made by the Director of Operations to provide each driver with approximate equal amounts of time worked in special trip assignments. An accrual record of special trip assignments will be placed in the office of the Director of Operations and such time accrued for each driver for a school year. Time offered and refused by an individual driver shall be charged against the accumulative record. The record shall be accumulative from July 1 to June 30 of each year of the contract.

Special trips shall be assigned to the first names on the list in order of seniority as the trip becomes available. If the employee accepts or denies the trip, her/his his/her name is rotated to the last place on the list and the next trip is offered to the employee with the next greatest seniority and on down the list in descending order. Refusal in excess of one (1) trip by any member of the bargaining unit shall cause her/his name to be rotated to the bottom of the list. If all signed interested drivers would be on overtime it would be awarded to the driver with lowest amount of hours. A special trip that is refused by a driver shall be charged as a trip taken on the special trip chart. In the event that no bus driver accepts the assignment, the assignment may be made in reverse seniority or the district may go to an outside source. Within the existing school year, special trip assignments shall be posted and assigned within 48 hours of receipt by the Transportation Department. If a driver declines a special trip assignment when his/her turn comes up in the rotation, that driver will not be called again until the next rotation.
