Substitute Bus Drivers. Substitute bus drivers shall be considered for accumulation of seniority under the following conditions:
a. They have satisfactorily driven for the Board as substitute driver for a period of sixty (60) days of work. Any part of a day worked shall be considered a full day. (Substitute drivers may join the Union upon completion of the sixty (60) days of work probationary period.) While a substitute driver is on probation he/she shall be exempt for Article II, Section F.
b. Upon satisfactory completion of a probationary period of sixty (60) work days, the employee's name shall be entered on the substitute driver seniority list. Substitute drivers shall accumulate seniority on a “days worked” basis, that is, for each day worked the driver shall accumulate one day of seniority. Any part of a day worked shall count as one day.
c. When a non-probationary driver makes a transition to substitute driver status, other than layoff, their seniority shall be terminated and this driver shall then begin to accumulate seniority as a new substitute driver.
d. Selection of substitute bus drivers to train for regular driver duties shall be the responsibility of the Board of Education. The Board shall select the most qualified person who has the present ability and skill required to satisfactorily perform the regular driver duties. Selection of the most qualified person will be done through an interview process that will include a hiring committee of three people. Two of the members will be selected by the drivers’ union to assist in the evaluation and selection of the new regular driver. Criteria will be established to ensure that we highly consider our qualified most senior substitute drivers for any regular driver position.
e. When a substitute driver is selected by the Board to train as a regular driver, they shall be allowed a training period that will vary based on their number of days worked as a substitute driver. The training period shall be a maximum of ninety (90) days of work and shall be reduced by the number of days worked as a substitute driver, up to a maximum reduction of sixty (60) days. For example, a substitute driver who has successfully completed their probationary period as a substitute driver would have a training period of thirty (30) work days (90 days total minus 60 days worked as a substitute = 30 days). Substitute Bus Drivers. Regular employees who hold a CDL license and are approved as substitute bus drivers, but work regularly in other classifications, shall be paid at Step 0 of the Bus Driver Salary Schedule for all substitute bus driving work they perform.

Substitute Bus Drivers. The Director of Transportation or designee will determine how trips are transported either by the assigned driver or substitute driver.
Substitute Bus Drivers. 24.6.1 When a substitute bus driver is needed for a route or trip, an available bargaining unit bus driver shall be utilized before any other substitute or other employees with a bus driver’s license.
Substitute Bus Drivers. Unit members working in positions other than Bus Driver who possess a valid California Bus Driver Certificate may be designated as a Substitute Driver, depending on the unit member’s willingness and the District’s approval.
21.6.3.1 Non unit members may be hired by the District as Substitute Drivers.

Substitute Bus Drivers. The Transportation Director shall maintain an adequate list of qualified Substitute Bus Drivers.
Substitute Bus Drivers. At the discretion of the District, a pool of substitute school bus drivers shall be maintained to support student transportation. These substitute employees shall be considered at will employees. This article does not grant or create any employment rights greater than those allowed regular substitute employees. Substitute school bus drivers shall be guaranteed a total of four (4) hours pay time and thirty (30) minutes of split shift compensation each day students attend school. Substitute school bus drivers shall be used to replace permanent school bus drivers who are absent from work and/or to perform extra work when permanent school bus drivers are not available. Such extra work is available on regular school days and when school is not in session including holidays and weekends. Substitute bus drivers shall be selected in a process consistent with the requirements of the Merit System of Classified Employment. A pool of potential substitute school bus drivers shall be established. Once the pool is established, appropriate training shall be made available in compliance with current state regulation regarding the licensing of school bus drivers. Classified Personnel shall conduct a test establishing a list of unranked substitute school bus drivers. The unranked list shall comply with the Education Code requirements. A test shall be conducted at least one (1) time per school year.
Substitute Bus Drivers. 28 shall be eligible to participate in Washington State Public Employees Retirement System to the 29 extent required by State law. Substitute bus drivers shall be paid the rate of pay designated for 30 substitute bus drivers under Schedule A. 32 Section 19.10.5.
Substitute Bus Drivers. 1. All substitute drivers whose names appear on the extra run list will be required to either pay dues or an equivalent representation fee to the union for pay periods when 15 hours or more have been worked during that pay period.
2. Substitute drivers are members of the bargaining unit entitled to all the benefits of the Master Agreement with the exception of the following: Holidays, Vacation, Insurance Benefits, Longevity Pay.
3. Substitute bus drivers will be classified as casual employees as they do not work on a regular basis.
