Staff Development Fund. 29.1 Effective September 1, 2015 a fund in the amount of one hundred and forty five thousand dollars ($145,000) is available annually to members of the Professional Support Staff employee group for the purpose of professional development.
29.2 Effective September 1, 2015, the amount of the fund referred to in Clause 29.1 may be enhanced by up to ten thousand ($10,000.00) dollars wherein the Board agrees to match dollar for dollar any contribution made by the Association, up to a maximum of five thousand ($5,000.00) dollars per year. The maximum amount that the Board will contribute to this Fund shall not exceed one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) in each fiscal year.
29.3 Any Professional Support Staff member or group of members may make application to the Professional Support Staff Advisory Committee for funds, such application to include a resume of the proposed project.
29.4 It is the responsibility of the Professional Support Staff Advisory Committee Chair, or designate, to rule on each application and inform the applicant of the decision. The decision of the Chair or designate, shall be final.
29.5 An advisory committee of three (3) Professional Support Staff members and two (2) representative appointed by the Superintendent of Human Resources shall review and revise the guidelines for the Fund as required. An annual report will be submitted to both the C.B.E. Staff Association and the Superintendent of Human Resources detailing the utilization and expenses of the Fund. This committee will meet as required.
29.6 Effective September 1 of each year, an additional one thousand ($1,000.00) dollars shall be allocated on an annual basis for the administration of this Staff Development Fund. For all funds above the first eight thousand ($8,000) dollars provided by the Board in Clause 29.1 and Clause 29.2, up to twenty (20) percent may be allocated by the Staff Association to the administration of the Staff Development Fund.
29.7 In the event that unallocated funds in the Staff Development Fund exceed the current year’s annual amount as at August 31 each year, the Board’s contribution in the subsequent year shall be reduced by the amount of the excess.
Staff Development Fund. (a) An amount equal to three-quarters of one percent (0.75%) of the gross annual CUPE payroll shall be allocated to the Staff Development Fund. Twenty percent (20%) of the fund will be used to sponsor College-wide in-house group courses. The balance of the fund is to be used to:
(i) Cover all or a portion of the approved costs of educational requests from employees.
(ii) Supplement outside funds and/or cover a portion of the non-salary costs associated with approved programmes, including exchanges within the College or other organizations.
(b) The Labour/Management Committee shall receive and review all requests for use of staff development funds. The committee shall establish guidelines for the administration of the staff development programme and will consult on making training pursuant to this Article to the mutual benefit of the Union; its’ members; and the College. Time spent in activities approved under this Article is not eligible for overtime entitlements. Reclassification of positions shall not be affected by skills developed by employees through participation in an approved staff development programme.

Managers will make every reasonable effort to grant leaves of absence with pay for the purpose of improving or upgrading individual skills, professional abilities, or enhancing the profession. Tuition, fees and other expenses shall be provided subject to the availability of funds for this purpose.
Staff Development Fund. 29.1 Effective September 1, 2015, a fund in the amount of two hundred and ninety thousand dollars ($290,000) is available annually to Staff Association members, or groups of Staff Association members, for the purpose of staff training/development. This fund shall be known as the Staff Development Fund.
29.2 Effective September 1, 2015, the amount of the Fund referred to in Clause 29.1 may be enhanced by up to fifty thousand ($50,000) dollars wherein the Board agrees to match dollar for dollar any contribution made by the Association, up to a maximum of twenty-five thousand ($25,000) dollars per year. The maximum amount that the Board will contribute to this Fund shall not exceed three hundred and fifteen thousand dollars ($315,000) in each fiscal year.
29.3 Any Staff Association member or group of Staff Association members may make application to the Staff Association Staff Development Advisory Committee for funds, such application to include a resume of the proposed project.
29.4 It is the responsibility of the Staff Association Chair, or designate, to rule on each application and inform the applicant of the decision. The decision of the Chair or designate, shall be final.

Staff Development Fund. 9.3.1 A fund in the amount of one million, one hundred and fifty thousand ($1,150,000) is available annually to teachers or groups of teachers for the purpose of professional development. This fund shall be known as the Staff Development Fund. This amount will be distributed to the Local in two equal amounts. The first amount will be provided during the last business week in August and the second amount during the first business week in January.
9.3.2 The Local shall administer and control the distribution of the Staff Development Fund. The Local shall provide an annual report to the Chief Superintendent of Schools or delegated authority indicating disbursement of the funds and staff development priorities.
9.3.3 In the event that unallocated funds in the Staff Development Fund exceed the current year’s annual amount as at August 31 each year, the Board’s contribution in the subsequent year shall be reduced by the amount of the excess.
9.3.4 An advisory committee of four (4) teachers and a representative to be named by the Chief Superintendent of Schools or delegated authority will be appointed to review and revise the guidelines for the fund. The committee will meet as required and shall consider and support the staff development priorities of the Board.
9.3.5 Any teacher or group of teachers may make application to the Local in accordance with the guideline processes published by the Staff Development Fund Advisory Committee. Leaves are subject to the need for and the availability of substitute teachers.
Staff Development Fund. The District shall annually provide a staff development fund consisting of
a) Tuition reimbursement.
b) Payment of fees and expenses associated with attendance at conferences, meetings, seminars and similar activities.
c) Support for the facilitation/coordination of locally organized workshops, planning groups or special projects.

A separate Resource Nurse Staff Development Fund will be established each fiscal year by (1) dividing all resource nurse hours worked in the prior fiscal year by 2,080 and (2) multiplying that figure by $275. Employer-required education will not be paid for out of Staff Development Funds, and will be in addition to benefits provided in this section. [Participation in this fund is limited to nurses who hold benefited positions.]
